The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server certification is designed for IT professionals working in the typically complex computing environment of medium-sized to large organizations.
Candidate profile
An MCSE candidate should have at least one year of experience implementing and administering a network operating system and a client operating system, and designing a network infrastructure.
How to earn your MCSE on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
To earn your MCSE on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server certification, you must pass seven exams:

| • | One core exam on client operating systems |
| • | One core design exam |
| • | Two elective exams |
If you earned the MCSE certification on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 by February 28, 2001, you remain certified.

Discontinued elective exams
A number of other elective exams still count toward the MCSE on Windows 2000 Server certification but are no longer available.

2Candidates who passed Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Exams 70-067, 70-068, and 70-073 had the option of taking the comprehensive Exam 70-240: Microsoft Windows 2000 Accelerated Exam for MCPs Certified on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. By passing this exam, candidates met the following exam requirements: Exam 70-210, 70-215, 70-216, and 70-217. Exam 70-240 is no longer available.
3Exams 70-219, 70-220, 70-221, 70-226, 70-297, and 70-298 can each count one time toward one core design exam or one elective exam. These exams cannot count toward both a core design exam and an elective exam. Exam 70-620 can count one time toward a core client exam or an elective exam, but not toward both a client exam and elective exam.
4Windows Server 2008 exams cannot be used as credit toward the MCSE certification.
