Q.What if I lose my voucher number?
A.

After you registered for the Academic Second Shot offer on the Microsoft site, you received a confirmation e-mail message. If you lose your voucher number, check the e-mail message again, as it provides a link to a Web page where you can obtain a new voucher number.

Q.Does the Second Shot offer apply to beta exams?
A.

No, you can only take beta exams once, so they are not eligible for the Second Shot offer.

Q.What is the timeframe in which I must take my first exam and then retake that same exam if I do not pass on the first try?
A.

If you registered for the Second Shot offer by May 31, 2008, and have an exam voucher, you have until June 30, 2008, to complete your first exam and any retakes of exams that you did not pass.

Q.If I did not pass an exam before I registered for and purchased a Second Shot voucher, am I eligible for the Second Shot offer?
A.

No. To be eligible for this Second Shot offer, you needed to register for your Second Shot voucher before you took your initial exam. Registration for the Second Shot offer has expired. However, if you registered for exam vouchers prior to May 31, 2008, you can use them for eligible Microsoft Certification exams.

Q.I took an exam before I found out about the Second Shot offer. Can I have a free retake anyway?

Sorry; only candidates who have pre-registered for the Second Shot promotion are eligible for the free retake.

Q.If I do not pass an exam, can I retake it any time?
A.

All retake timeframes are subject to compliance with the Microsoft Certification Exam Retake rules, which state:

If you do not pass an exam the first time, you may retake it at any time. If you do not achieve a passing score a second time, you must wait at least 14 days to retake the exam a third time. A 14-day waiting period will be imposed for all subsequent exam retakes. If you have passed an exam, you cannot take it again. Beta exams may be taken only once.

There are three distinct differences between the two programs:

The Academic Second Shot is a free retake promotion on Microsoft Certification exams that are part of the Academic Exam Series. These exams are offered at the discounted price of US$60 to students, faculty, and employees of high schools and accredited post-secondary schools (institutes of higher learning).

In contrast, the Second Shot program for businesses and IT professionals offers Microsoft Certification exams for US$125.

Only students, faculty, and employees of accredited high schools and post-secondary schools (institutes of higher learning) are eligible for the Academic Second Shot offer. Participants must show proof of this status to the test site administrator before they take their Microsoft Certification exam.

The Academic Second Shot is available in the United States, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and participating countries/regions.

Q.What is the difference between 70 and 72 Microsoft Certification exams?
A.

The numbers 70 and 72 refer to the prefix of the exam number. These exams are exactly the same except that the 72 Microsoft Certification exams are Academic Series exams, which are available at an academic discount only to students, faculty, and employees of accredited high schools and post-secondary schools.
