Introduction

Note: This is a companion lab for Clinic 6400B – First Look: Getting Started with Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008.

This one and a half hour Lab provides hands-on experience with the following Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services functionality: Implementing Terminal Services Gateway, Implementing Terminal Services RemoteApp, Implementing Terminal Services Web Access, Using Windows System Resource Manager with Terminal Services.

Audience

IT Professionals currently experienced on the technologies included in Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and/or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, and who hold an MCSE or MCSA certification and/or equivalent knowledge.

Prerequisites

Experience with Windows Server 2000 and/or Windows Server 2003

MCSA/MCSE Certification or equivalent knowledge.

You should be familiar with basic networking concepts and Microsoft Active Directory concepts.

Implement a Terminal Services Gateway

Implement Terminal Services RemoteApp

Implement Terminal Services Web Access

Use Windows System Resources Manager on a Terminal Services Server


Hands-On Lab Outline

Exercise 1: Implementing Terminal Services Gateway

After completing this exercise, students will be able to:

Confirm the Terminal Server Gateway Server services have started.

Create and map a certificate for the Terminal Services Gateway Server.

Configure Group Policy to distribute Security Certificates.

Configure the client machines.

Force application of the Group Policy settings to client machines.

Create a Connection Authorization Policy.

Create a computer group to control access to the Terminal Services Gateway.

Create a Resource Authorization Policy.

Configure Remote Desktop Connection Settings on the client computer.

Exercise 2: Implementing Terminal Services RemoteApp

After completing this exercise, students will be able to:

Install Terminal Server Role Service.

Add a program to the Allow list.

Create an RDP file that publishes a connection to an application.

Create an MSI file that installs an application.

Use RemoteApp Access.

Exercise 3: Implementing Terminal Services Web Access

After completing this exercise, students will be able to:

Install Terminal Server Web Access Role Service.

Connect to Terminal Server Web Access and launch application.

Implement a Windows System Resource Manager Policy.

Exercise 4: Using Windows System Resource Manager with Terminal Services

After completing this exercise, students will be able to:
