How It Works

Training Vouchers entitle you to receive courses from a Microsoft CPLS for a specific number of training days. The number of days varies by product and by the number of qualifying licenses for which you acquire Software Assurance. To use the Training Vouchers benefit, you must have a minimum number of licenses covered by Software Assurance; this number varies by licensing program.

For details, refer to the Microsoft Product List for Volume Licensing.

Your Software Assurance Benefits Manager activates the Training Vouchers benefit through the Microsoft Volume Licensing Services (MVLS) Web site and then assigns training days and associated Training Vouchers to designated individuals.

The right to access the Training Vouchers benefit expires with your Software Assurance coverage. If you have created a training voucher and reserved it with a qualified CPLS before the expiration of your Software Assurance coverage, the voucher will be valid for 180 days after the date it was created regardless of the Software Assurance coverage expiration date. Training Vouchers not reserved with a qualified CPLS before the end of your Software Assurance coverage will expire and be forfeited.

Steps for the Notices Contact:

  1. Sign the Microsoft Volume License Agreement.

  2. Microsoft will send you a welcome e-mail message that introduces you to Microsoft Volume License Services (MVLS).

  3. Go to the Microsoft Volume License Services Web site.

  4. Click the Sign In button. On the next screen, enter your Windows Live ID credentials. If you do not have a Windows Live ID, click Sign Up Now and follow the instructions on your screen to obtain an ID.

  5. Create an MVLS account.

  6. Assign a Benefits Administrator(s) to manage Software Assurance benefits (see table above for suggestions as to who in your organization to designate). Microsoft will send a welcome e-mail message to the Benefits Administrator(s).

  7. After the Benefits Administrator(s) registers on MVLS, assign permissions to manage specific Software Assurance benefits.

Steps for the Benefits Administrator:

  1. Ensure that you have administrative rights to activate this benefit, or contact your Notices Contact.

  2. Go to the Microsoft Volume License Services Web site.

  3. Click the Sign In button. On the next screen, enter your Windows Live ID credentials. If you do not have a Windows Live ID, click Sign Up Now and follow the instructions on your screen to obtain an ID.

  4. Click on the Software Assurance link. This will take you to the Software Assurance Benefits Summary page.

  5. Click on Training Vouchers.

  6. To begin using the Training Vouchers benefit, you must first create a voucher. To create a voucher, you will need to select the number of days associated with the vouchers and also designate the attendee who will be receiving the voucher and taking the course. The attendee will receive an e-mail with the voucher information and a link to available partners to select from.

  7. Promote the Training Vouchers benefit to your IT staff, Human Resources department, and those responsible for staff development within your organization. Refer to the Promote section for more information.
