Exchange Server support improvements
If your organization uses Microsoft Exchange Server to store information, such as e-mail messages, contacts, and calendar items, the ability to access and modify this information from your Macintosh computer has been enhanced. Continual and automatic synchronization of all of your Entourage messages, Contacts, and Calendar events with your Exchange server is greatly improved in this release, and new Exchange account features have been added.
Improvements include:
- Delegation access You can delegate the management of your mail,
Calendar events, and Address Book Contacts to someone else by using
Entourage.
- Public Folders You can subscribe to and create your own Exchange
server public folders, and you can access Calendars and Contacts stored in
public folders.
- Sharing You can share your Address Books, Calendars, and Mail
folders with other Exchange users and you can open any Address Book,
Calendar, or Mail folder on an Exchange server that has been shared with
you. You can also mark Contacts and Calendar events in shared Address Books
and Calendars as private.
- Multiple Address Books, Calendars, and Mail folders You can
create multiple Address Books, Calendars, and Mail folders on the Exchange
server by using Entourage.
- Global Address List You can look up contact information stored in
the Global Address List, and when you type an e-mail address or name,
Entourage automatically completes the e-mail address when it matches an
entry in the Global Address List.
- Exchange account synchronization Contacts and Calendar events
synchronize quickly and correctly with Exchange Address Books and Calendars
based on the synchronization options in your account settings.
- Calendar The Calendar responds more quickly when you view and
search for Calendar events, overall stability is improved, attachments in
Calendar events are preserved, and you can change every field when editing a
single occurrence of a recurring event.
- Group by conversation You can group e-mail messages by
Conversation.
- Mailbox quotas You can check the sizes of all the folders in an
Exchange account by using Entourage.
Important Exchange folders that are not in your mailbox, such as delegated folders and public folders, are read-only unless the appropriate update is installed on the Exchange server. For more information, visit the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/mac.

underline style is changed
This update resolves an issue that caused Word to stop displaying an
underline for the tab between the number in a numbered list and the first
character after the number if both of those items were underlined.
- A document that is already open in Word is brought to the front when
you try to open it again
This update changes the behavior of Word when you attempt to open a document
in the Finder, on Word's File menu, or in the Project Palette that is

border
This update fixes an issue that caused tables containing decimal numbers and
a decimal tab that placed the numbers very close to the edge of the table
border to overlap the table border.

a subset
For printer drivers that support paper size subsets, Word previously used
the last paper size in a subset if you did not select a paper size. Now,
Word uses the first paper size in the subset if you do not select a paper
size (for example, the standard US Letter paper size at the top of most US
Letter paper size subsets).
- Performance is improved with Address Books that contain more than
5,000 contacts
This update improves performance when you use Word with an Entourage Address
Book that contains a large number of contacts. Word can be used with

Improvements for Microsoft PowerPoint 2004
- Text layout compatibility with Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows is
improved
This update includes an improved text layout engine that provides a greater
degree of compatibility between Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows and
Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac. As a result, text layout on both platforms
should look much more similar, with far fewer text wrapping differences.
Because previous versions of PowerPoint for Mac do not include the improved
text layout engine, you might see a slight difference in text layout
compared to previous versions of PowerPoint for Mac.
- Performance for movie playback is improved
Playback performance for movie files that use QuickTime-supported codecs is
significantly improved with this update. To improve playback performance
during presentations that use two monitors, movies play only on the main
presentation screen. They do not play on the presenter tools screen.
- Stability is improved when you double-click hyperlinks in Slide Show
view
If you double-click a hyperlink in a presentation while in Slide Show view,

PowerPoint for Windows and saved in the PowerPoint 97-2003 & 95 Presentation
(*.ppt) format to be deleted just after being saved.
- Only one message displays if required fonts are missing
This update fixes an issue that caused PowerPoint to display a series of
repetitive messages and, in some cases, quit unexpectedly if required fonts
were not present on the computer. Now, PowerPoint displays one message per
session when required fonts are missing, including an option not to show the
message again.
Improvements for Microsoft Entourage 2004
- End times adjust correctly after you modify a single occurrence of a
recurring calendar event
In previous versions, if you changed the end time of a single occurrence of
a recurring calendar event and then printed your calendar by using the
Weekly view, the end time of the recurring meeting was reflected in the
printout instead of the modified end time of the single occurrence. This
issue is resolved in this update.
- Performance is improved when your computer is running Mac OS X 10.4
(Tiger)
Entourage 2004 11.2 is optimized to prevent performance issues with new
technologies introduced with Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), such as the Spotlight
search feature. Without this update, Entourage performance may become slow
under Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
- Delegate access works with Exchange servers in a Front End(FE)/Back
End(BE) topology
Delegates can now synchronize mailbox information for the mailbox owner
through Exchange servers in a Front End(FE)/Back End(BE) topology through
the Front End server. Previously, delegates needed direct access through the
firewall to the Back End server to synchronize mailbox information for the
mailbox owner.
- Stability is improved for nested groups in the Address Book
This update fixes an issue that caused Entourage to fail to send an e-mail
message to a nested group in the Address Book. A nested group is a group
that contains one or more other groups.

enabled
This update resolves an issue in which IMAP accounts that used both the Live
Sync (stay connected with server) option and a Send & Receive All schedule
had duplicate messages in the inbox.
- Support is improved for .ics files
This update adds support for .ics files that use Unix-style line breaks,
improving compatibility with third-party online services.
- Stability is improved for HTML e-mail messages
Some users have reported strange display behavior when they compose or view
HTML e-mail messages in Entourage, such as right-justified text and
oversized fonts appearing in entry fields, or unexpected error messages
displaying when users access other Entourage features after viewing an HTML
e-mail message. This issue is resolved in this update.
- Import from Apple Mail in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) works correctly
This update fixes an issue that prevented Entourage from importing mail,
rules, and signatures from Apple Mail in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
- Attachment size limits on sent messages are enforced correctly
This update addresses an issue that prevented Entourage from correctly
enforcing the attachment size limit on messages being sent through an
Exchange server, causing sent messages with attachments larger than the size
limit to stall in the Outbox and causing transaction log files on the
Exchange server to grow at an unexpected rate. Now, Entourage alerts users
when they attempt to send a mail message with an attachment that exceeds the
size limit enforced by the Exchange server.
- Updated definition for Junk E-Mail Protection
This update provides the Junk E-mail Filter with a more current definition
of which messages should be considered junk. Additional updates are planned.
- Deleted e-mail messages no longer reappear when you use POP mail
servers

For more information about the Application.AutomationSecurity property, see Knowledge Base (KB) article KB 886633 at http://support.microsoft.com.
- Text changes to the font selected on the Font menu
In some cases, a font change did not take effect when you used the Font menu. This happened when the WYSIWYG font and style menus check box was cleared in Preferences (on the Word menu, click Preferences, and then click the General tab) and then the Font menu was used to change the font of text in a document. This problem has been fixed. The text now changes to the font that you select in the Font menu.
- Swiss German proofing tools are correctly detected
Previously, the Compatibility Report in Word erroneously reported the following:
Swiss German proofing tools are not installed. This problem has been fixed. Text marked as Swiss German text is proofed using the German proofing tools, which are installed by default. The Compatibility Report no longer reports this issue.
- Text selection is improved
Previously, when you double-clicked a word to select it, and then dragged the selection to include more words, Word sometimes selected the preceding word in addition to the words you selected. This problem has been fixed. Word no longer selects the word preceding the word you select.
Previously released improvements for Excel 2004
- Security is improved when you open a document that has macros
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint now support an additional level of security that affects macros that open other Office documents containing macros.
