If I own Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 and I want Office for Mac Home and Business 2011, can I upgrade to Office for Mac Home and Business 2011?

Yes. There are two options for uprgrading Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 to Office for Mac Home and Business 2011.

Option 1: Purchase a Home and Business upgrade product key (only available in select countries).

Note: Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 upgrade product keys will only work if you already have Office for Mac 2011 installed. There are no version upgrade product keys for owners of Office for Mac 2008 and earlier versions.

Upgrade keys will need to be purchased for each install you desire to upgrade. For example, if you purchased Office for Mac Home and Student 2011- Family Pack, then three upgrade keys would need to be purchased if you want to upgrade all three installs.


Purchase an upgrade product key (not available in all countries) by selecting the country in the country list and follow the instructions online. You will need to be connected to the internet to purchase.

Once you have purchased the key, to upgrade, do the following:

  1. Open Word (or Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and then on the Word menu, click Upgrade Office.
  2. On the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant screen, click Enter your product key, and then complete the instructions on the screens.
  3. To see any new functionality, close all open Office for Mac applications, and then reopen them.

    Note: If you do not see your country in the country list, upgrade product keys are not available in your country and you will have to purchase a full Home and Business 2011 product key from a participating retailer.

Option 2: Home and Business product key

Purchase a physical box of Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 online or at a retail store. Inside the package, you will find your product key.

After you have an Office for Mac Home and Business upgrade product key or an Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 product key, do the following:

  1. Open Word (or Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and then on the Word menu, click Upgrade Office.
  2. On the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant screen, click Enter your product key, and then complete the instructions on the screens.
  3. To see any new functionality, close all open Office for Mac applications, and then reopen them.

Can I upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 if I already have Word 2011, Excel 2011, or PowerPoint 2011?

Yes, but you will have to uninstall the standalone application, and then install Office for Mac 2011. To learn how to uninstall, please visit the Microsoft Solution Center.

Can I upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 if I already have Office 2004 for Mac or Office 2008 for Mac?

Yes, however upgrade pricing is not available from an earlier version of Office for Mac. You can purchase a fully licensed version of Office of Mac 2011, and install it on your computer.

How do I access my Microsoft Entourage 2008 data if I install Office for Mac Home and Student 2011?

Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 does not include Microsoft Entourage or Microsoft Outlook. If you want to access your Entourage 2008 data, keep Entourage 2008 installed on your computer. You can have Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 and Office 2008 for Mac installed on the same computer, and can have any Office for Mac 2011 application and Entourage 2008 open at the same time.

My hard drive crashed / I need to reinstall - How do I reinstall Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 if I upgraded from Office for Mac Home and Student 2011?

To reinstall Office for Mac Home and Business 2011, if you upgraded from Office for Mac Home and Student 2011, do the following:

  1. Reinstall Office for Mac Home and Student 2011, using your original product key. For support with installation or activation, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/faq.
    Note: If you downloaded Office for Mac Home and Student 2011, you will need to re-download. For support with this process, please contact the retailer you purchased from.
  2. Open Word (or Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and then on the Word menu, click Purchase Options
  3. On the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant screen, click Enter your Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 product key, and then complete the instructions on the screens.
    Note: Use the product key you received when downloading your Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 upgrade. This can be found in your confirmation email. If you do not have your confirmation email, you may access your account and product key by visiting www.findmyorder.com.
  4. To see any new functionality, close all open Office for Mac applications, and then reopen them.
