What is a trial version?

A trial version lets you evaluate Office for Mac 2011 for a 30-day period at no cost. To access the trial, go to: www.microsoft.com/mac/trial
Enter your email address, download Office for Mac, and activate online.

How do I download Office for Mac 2011 trial?

You can download a free, 30-day trial verison of Office for Mac from the Office for Mac website. For more information, go to: www.microsoft.com/mac.trial

How do I activate and start using the Office for Mac 2011 trial?

  1. Download and install the Office for Mac 2011 trial.
  2. On the launch screen of the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant, click Try free for 30 days.

  3. Enter your email address and click Activate.
    Note: You must have an Internet connection to activate online. You can not activate by phone.

  4. After you have completed the instructions on the screens you can evaluate Office for Mac for 30 days.

I'm ready to purchase Office for Mac. Can I convert the trial version to the full product?

Yes, you can convert the trial version to the full version of Office for Mac.

Step 1
To convert your product you will need a valid product key. There are two ways to obtain a vailid product key.

Option 1: Purchase a product key online.
Open any Office for Mac application. On the first screen of the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant, click Purchase a product key online. After you have completed your online purchase your Office for Mac product key will be emailed to you.

Option 2: Purchase traditional boxed software at retail store.
Purchase a physical box of Office for Mac online or at a retail store. Inside the package, you will find your product key.


Step 2
After you have purchased your product key, open any Office for Mac application to get to the Office Setup Assistant. Click Enter your product key and complete the instructions on the following screens.

What does convert mean?

Convert means that you have finished evaluating a trial version and have decided to purchase the full product. You are prompted to provide a product key that you already have or will purchase online.

Outlook for Mac 2011 no longer works after converting my trial. Why?

Outlook for Mac 2011 is only available if you purchase Office for Mac Home and Business 2011. If you purchased Office for Mac Home and Student 2011, then Outlook for Mac opens in offline mode. If you want to use Outlook for Mac, you need to purchase an Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 product. See the Product Upgrade section of this FAQ for details on upgrading.

My trial has expired. I want to convert the trial into a full version of Office for Mac 2011. What do I do?

There are two steps for converting an expired trial to a full version of Office for Mac 2011.

Step 1
To convert your product you will need a valid product key. There are two ways to obtain a vailid product key.

Option 1: Purchase a product key online.
Open any Office for Mac application. On the first screen of the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant, click Purchase a product key online. After you have completed your online purchase your Office for Mac product key will be emailed to you.

My trial is in one language, and I want to purchase Office for Mac in another language? Can I do this?

Yes, but it will require you to uninstall the Office for Mac 2011 trial in the one language, and then install Office for Mac 2011 in the other language. For complete uninstall instuctions, please visit the Microsoft Solution Center

I already have Office for Mac Home and Business 2011. Is Office for Mac 2011 trial for me?

No. The Office for Mac 2011 trial is no different from the full version of Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 in features and functionality. You do not have to download the trial if you already have Office for Mac 2011 installed.

I am interested in Office for Mac Home and Student 2011. Is there a trial available?

Office for Mac 2011 trial is equivalent in functionality to Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 which includes all the functionality of Office Home and Student, plus Microsoft Outlook. During the trial period, if you decide to purchase Office for Mac Home and Student 2011, you will receive a product key that will convert your trial to Office for Mac Home and Student 2011, and you will be unable to use Microsoft Outlook. You can still access Outlook in an offline mode so that you can retrieve your existing data, for example contacts or previous received e-mail messages. However, in offline mode you will not be able to receive or send email or update contacts or calendars.

On how many computers can I install Office for Mac 2011 trial?

You can download Office for Mac 2011 trial on as many computers as you want. However, the Office for Mac 2011 trial can be activated only once per computer.

I have to reinstall Office for Mac 2011 trial on my computer during the 30-day trial period. Will the software let me do this?

Yes. Office for Mac trial can be reinstalled during the 30-day trial period and you can complete your original trial. After the 30-day trial period has expired, you are no longer able to reinstall the trial.

How do I get product support for Office for Mac 2011 trial?

For the Office for Mac 2011 trial, product support during the 30-day trial period is available online only. Please see the How-To section or the Forums section of this site.

My 30-day trial has expired, and I am not sure that I am ready to purchase. What should I do?
