Microsoft Entourage 2008 for Mac, Web Services Edition, uses Exchange Web Services as the primary protocol for interacting with the Exchange mailbox database. Exchange Web Services moves several responsibilities from the client computer to the server. For example, a significant amount of logic, such as accepting and forwarding meeting events, was moved to the server. This relieves Exchange client applications, such as Entourage, from performing many server tasks and also ensures compatibility across clients.
The following table shows the functions available in Entourage 2008, which uses both WebDAV and Exchange Web Services, versus those available in Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition. Use this information to develop an upgrade strategy for the new version of Entourage so that you can take advantage of the latest innovations that Exchange 2007 and Entourage have to offer.
