About the Word 97-98-2000 Import
Converter:
With the Microsoft Word 97-98-2000 Import Converter, users of Microsoft Word 5.1 or Word 6.x
for the Macintosh can open documents created in Word 97 for Windows®. This converter will
also make it possible for Word 5.1 or Word 6.x users to open documents created in Word 98
for the Macintosh.
Previously, if you were running Word 5.1 or Word 6.x for the Macintosh and you wanted
to open a document created in Word 97, the person who created the document had to save the
file in a format you could work with. After installing this converter, you can just open
Word 97 files and begin working with the document.
Note: This latest version of the Word 97-98-2000 Import Converter adds support for
documents created in Far East versions of Word 97 for Windows and Word 98 Macintosh
Edition. See information on international versions.
Download instructions:
- Make sure that you have enough hard disk space
available before beginning installation.
- Download
the Word 97-98-2000 Import Converter and save it to your hard disk.
- Double-click the file to begin installation.
- Follow the instructions in the Word 97-98-2000 Import Converter Installer dialog
box.
- Click Install to continue the installation.
Note: If you are
using Word 5.1, when the Word 97-98-2000 Converter Installer dialog box prompts you
for an installation location, enter your Word Commands folder. If you are using Word
6.x, the Word 97-98-2000 Converter Installer dialog box automatically selects your
Word Extensions folder as the installation location. If you are using an international
version of Word, see information on international versions.

Known issues:
This converter requires a large memory partition to convert larger files, especially those
with graphics. In some circumstances, using the converter directly with Word will not
completely convert a large document. To fix this, run the Batch Converter* with a large
memory partition to convert the file.
International versions:
If you use an international version listed in the table below, you can use this converter
provided you manually select the appropriate installation location in Step 4 of the Download Instructions.

* The batch converter is a
separate application that is installed with the Word 97-98-2000 Import Converter. You can use
the batch converter to convert groups of files or memory-intensive files.
Working with Microsoft Excel

At this time, there are no plans for an Excel converter. Please ask Excel 97 users to save
their files in the Microsoft Excel 5/95 format.
