Risk of Using Non-Genuine Software

Aussino and ACICC fined for using illegal software
April was a busy month for enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. Raids and arrests in connection with the use of illegal software were made in KL, PJ, Penang, and for the first time, Kota Kinabalu.
One of the companies charged was Aussino Malaysia Sdn Bhd for criminal software copyright infringement, under Section 41 of the Copyright Act 1987.
Another casualty was ACICC Malaysia, an advertising agency in Kuala Lumpur. One of its directors, Nor Zailam Hasan, was fined RM10,000 at a Sessions Court or 6 months’ jail. The advice to businesses is clear: Don’t risk everything by getting caught in a raid. |
