Malaysian cuisine is exotic with an exciting range of flavors and culinary styles offering the uninitiated an endless gastronomic adventure. It comprises three main groups - Malay, Chinese and Indian with each having its own distinct style of cooking. There are also cuisine that have evolved from the meeting of cultures notably those of the Nyonya and Indian Muslim communities.







Malay Food
The traditional culinary style has been greatly influenced by the long-ago traders from neighboring countries. Malay food is often described as spicy and flavorful.

Popular Malay dishes include nasi lemak, nasi dagang, roti jala, beef rendang, ayam masak merah and more.


Chinese Food
Chinese cuisine in Malaysia, has taken on a spicier touch, often reinventing classic Chinese dishes. Many Chinese dishes are unique in Malaysia and not found in China. Chilies are used frequently to bestow fiery hotness to many of it's dishes.

Popular Chinese dishes include chili crab, bak kut teh, clay pot rice, yong tau fu, hainan chicken rice and more.


Indian Food
Indian food is now not only very Malaysian; unique and new versions of Indian food, not found in India, have ultimately been created. Indian cuisine can be divided into two mainstreams, North Indian and South Indian cuisine.

Popular Indian dishes include fish head curry, coconut crab curry, nasi briyani, mutton korma, tandoori chicken and more.



For the visitor who is interested in dining out, Kuala Lumpur boasts an extraordinary number of hawker stalls, coffee shops and restaurants, most of them offering a high standard of cuisine and often at very cheap prices.
