EPA Selects Microsoft Virtual Earth Platform for Geospatial Mission

On Sept. 13, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) selected the Microsoft® Virtual Earth™ platform to develop its mission-critical geospatial and mapping applications. The commitment to Virtual Earth will improve data sharing, analysis and insight for partner agencies, citizens and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) on topics ranging from superfund sites and oil spills to waterways and the quality of beach water. NAVTEQ Selected by Microsoft to Provide Navigable Map Data for Mexico

On Sept. 4, NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, announced that Microsoft Corp. will use NAVTEQ map data for Mexico to power its server products. NAVTEQ's newly integrated digital maps of Mexico will complete the NAVTEQ North America map database currently available on Microsoft's proprietary location-enabled applications. Microsoft currently uses NAVTEQ's comprehensive map data of the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada, as well as Western Europe and Asia. Recent Updates – Virtual Earth

Virtual Earth Roadshow Coming to Denver; Sacramento, Calif.; and Reston, Va.

The Microsoft Virtual Earth for Public Sector team along with Vexcel Corp. is hosting a three-city roadshow that will present a day of technical sessions focusing on the Microsoft Virtual Earth mapping platform. The seminars will take place in Denver, Sacramento and Reston on Oct. 3, 5 and 23 (respectively) and will include target developers, business and technical decision-makers, Web designers, and architects. Sessions include these:

• Keynote — Increasing Agency Capabilities: Enabling Data Access, Visualization, Analysis and Insight With Microsoft Virtual Earth
• Customer Technology Showcase
• Extending the Virtual Earth Platform Through Geospatial Expertise
• Adding Mapping Capabilities to Your Applications With Virtual Earth

Recent Updates – Live Search Maps

Live Search Maps Expands 3-D Imagery in the United States and Abroad

On Sept. 23, the Live Search Maps team expanded its 3-D availability to several U.S. and international markets. 3-D imagery of buildings is now available for several new cities, including Chicago and Edmonton, Canada, among others.
