Interview FAQ

Questions? You’re not alone. Here are the ones MBAs ask us most often.

About Your Trip

When should I plan my trip?
As soon as you hear from your recruiting coordinator! Positions fill and close quickly so it's good not to delay your trip. Your Recruiting Coordinator works with your School Recruiter, and will e-mail you instructions on how to book your travel arrangements.

Will I have free time during my site visit?
The maximum length of your interview trip can be three days and two nights. Expect to spend one day in interviews and another exploring the Seattle area. If you require more time, just e-mail your Recruiting Coordinator outlining your special circumstances so he or she can look into whether additional arrangements can be made.

May I bring my spouse or significant other?
You’re more than welcome to bring a companion, but you’ll be reimbursed for your travel expenses only.

What if I need to change my interview date?
After your interview date is confirmed and your travel has been booked, we prefer not to change your schedule unless there is an emergency. That said, we understand that emergencies do come up, and we do want to meet with you. So if you must reschedule, please contact your School Recruiter and your Recruiting Coordinator, and he or she will try to accommodate you.

What should I do while I’m in town?
Be sure to connect with our Recruiting Concierge in building 19 on the main Redmond campus for restaurant recommendations, dinner reservations, sight-seeing tours and more. You'll also find information on popular Seattle area restaurants, sights, and attractions at the following links:

About Your Interviews

Whom will I be in contact with before I arrive?
Several different people will help you navigate the interview process, including:

School Recruiter: Your school recruiter will be available to offer guidance, tips and general assistance.
Recruiting Coordinator (RC): Your RC will coordinate and e-mail you with your travel arrangements, interview date, and expense reimbursements. He or she is your go-to person for questions prior to your arrival.

Whom will I meet once onsite?
When you arrive to building 19 on our main Redmond campus, be sure to connect with our Recruiting Concierge who can give you a lay of the land, help with general area or Microsoft questions, set up dinner reservations for you, and more.

How many interviews will I have and how long will they last?
You can expect to meet with three to five people for about 45 minutes each.

Who will I interview with at Microsoft?
In most cases, you'll interview with a single product group. We try to find the best fit based on the team’s business needs, your own skills and interests, and available positions. In some cases however, you may interview with two groups based on availability.

When will I know which groups I'm actually interviewing with?
Our goal is to inform you 24 hrs before your interview, although you and your recruiter will decide upon a mutually agreed-upon repsonse time.

When will I know the results of my interview?
In most cases you should hear back from us within two weeks of your interview. Please let us know if you have other offers with deadlines pending.

If I receive an offer, how long will I have to make a decision?
We will work within your school’s guidelines to determine a reasonable time frame.
