Some Web sites offer their content in several languages. To view these pages in your preferred language, you can add languages to your list of languages in Internet Explorer, if you speak several languages; you can arrange them according to their priority. If a Web site offers multiple languages, content will appear in the language that has the highest priority.

Example: MSN web site (http://www.msn.com) is a multiple language Web site and setting the language order for content browsing allows you to view windows update content on your preferred language.

Websites encoding and Arabic language

Most Web pages contain information that tells the browser what language encoding (the language and character set) to use. If the page does not include that information, and you have the Language Encoding Auto-Select feature on, Internet Explorer can usually determine the appropriate language encoding, sometimes Internet Explorer cannot determine the appropriate language encoding so you will need to set it manually.

To turn Auto-Select on:

  • On the "Page " menu in Internet Explorer,

  • Point to "Encoding" then make sure "Auto-Select" check mark is marked.
To select the encoding for the webpage manually:

If Auto-Select cannot determine the correct language encoding, and you know what language encoding it should be, you can manually select it as below:

• On the "Page" menu in Internet Explorer
• Point to "Encoding", and then make sure "Auto-Select" check mark is unmarked.
• Point to "more", and then select the appropriate encoding.

International Domain Names

Internet Explorer 7 supports navigating to Uniform Resource Locator (URLs) written in users' native languages e.g. Arabic language which is critical for making the Internet truly international. Internet Explorer 7 permits navigation to Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) composed of Unicode characters from all of the world's languages Including Arabic language. IDN relies upon a standardized mechanism known as "Puny code" for encoding Unicode domain names using only the ASCII characters that are permitted by the global DNS system.
