Adnan Hashmi

Adnan Farooq Hashmi did his MS (Software Engineering) from the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST), Karachi, Pakistan in 1999, and was awarded the Gold Medal for his batch. He was co-founder of Lynx & Connexions Inc. in October 1999, and was the application architect for an Internet based utility bill payment system that involved all the utility companies of Pakistan. He also founded Core IT Education Centre in 2001, which later became an Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Approved Study Centre. He has mainly been involved in the development of Enterprise applications using Oracle, SQL Server, ASP, and ASP.NET, and has also conducted Training for Government organizations in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. His latest venture is Voicability, a Speech Technology startup.

He is User Group Leader of Core.NET, an INETA (International .NET Association) chartered User Group evangelizing Microsoft .NET Speech Technologies and speaks frequently at Microsoft and INETA User Group events mainly on Microsoft Speech Technologies and WinFX. Dr. Attash Durrani did his Ph.D. in Urdu Terminology in 1991 from University Oriental College, University of Punjab. He is Project Director Center of Excellence for Urdu Informatics in National Language Authority,Islamabad. His major contributions include development of Urdu Code Plate, Keyboard, Collation Order of Urdu, and Transliteration for Computers, Urdu Localization /Translation Project for Microsoft Windows/Office,Pak Nastaleeq Font and now Urdu Data Base ,OCR and Machine Translation in progress. He is also the Head of Bureau of Translation, Dictionaries Terminologies at the National Language Authority.

He has also been involved in teaching Official & Business Urdu and other subjects such as Philosophy and Psychology of Education at Allama Iqbal Open University, Institute of Education and Research , Lahore and Rawalpindi College of Education.

Dr. Durrani is also responsible for Curriculum Development in Urdu and Literacy; Development of Urdu Literacy Primers for Punjab & NWFP Govts. as UNESCO Expert and Revision of Training Material for Ministry of Education, Islamabad. Muhammad Naseem Siddiqui, graduate of FAST (NUCES), is a Senior Solution Architect at Kalsoft (Pvt) Ltd. Stephen Forte is the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder ofCorzen, Inc, a Manhattan (USA) based provider of online market research data for Wall Street Firms. Umar Saif

Dr. Umar Saif received his academic training from LUMS, Cambridge and MIT. He did his BSc (Hons) from LUMS (1998), PhD from University of Cambridge (2001) and Postdoctorate from MIT (2002), all in Computer Science. Dr. Saif worked and taught at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) for four years, where he co-led the team that developed system technologies for project Oxygen -- a US$40 million project sponsored by the US Department of Defense and an industrial Alliance of world-class companies. While at MIT, Dr. Saif also managed the multi-million dollar collaboration on future computing technologies between University of Cambridge and MIT sponsored by the Cambridge-MIT Institute (CMI) and a consortium of hightech companies.

Dr. Saif's research interests broadly span areas of Ubiquitous Computing, Operating Systems, Distributed Systems, Mobile Systems, Highspeed Routing Architectures and the impact of IT in developing world countries. Dr. Saif has authored several technical publications and is a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. He was the first Pakistani to receive a PhD in Computer Science from University of Cambridge, where he was admitted to the doctoral program when he was only 19 years old. During his doctorate studies, he was a Trinity College Overseas Scholar and Commonwealth Scholar at University of Cambridge. He has been nominated for the MIT Technovator award and the TR100 award (awarded to the top 100 young scientists in the world). He has served on the technical advisory board of several technology companies and is a regular speaker at technology forums, especially relating to the impact of IT in developing-world countries.

Dr. Saif was a founding Director of the Pakistan Organization for Collaborative Research (POCR) at HEC. Recently, Dr. Umar Saif received a research grant from Microsoft Research (MSR) for his work on addressing the bandwidth limitations faced by Internet users in the developing world. Dr. Saif project was the first project sponsored by MSR in Pakistan.
