Microsoft & Government of NWFP sign MoU for Development in Education Sector

Microsoft achieved a significant milestone in June by signing an MoU with the Ministry of Education for development in education sector in the NWFP province under its Partners in Learning (PIL) Program. Microsoft and Government of NWFP would make joint efforts for the promotion of IT education through innovative programs and practices. The MoU was signed by Sardar Hussain Babak, Minister for Education, NWFP and Mr. Kamal Ahmed, Country Manager, Microsoft Pakistan.

'Partners in Learning' is an overall IT education program in which the provincial government and Microsoft will work together to establish innovative schools by developing innovative teaching methodologies through the use of innovative tools. Microsoft will enhance the usage of innovative tools to educate students by establishing IT academies in educational institutions throughout NWFP. This 'Partners in Learning' MoU would be effective for the next 5 years.

Sardar Hussain Babak, Minister for Education, NWFP, while addressing the ceremony, said,

"Our government is determined to revolutionize IT education in NWFP to accelerate the development of the province by adopting the best practices from around the world. We anticipate that this long-term collaboration with Microsoft Pakistan will help achieve shared goals of development in education for the province.”

Microsoft works with them to inspire big thinking and discover best practices. Through shared experiences and goals, Microsoft is creating models that any school, any system can use in the future, to prepare children for success in the 21st century.

"We have a long-term commitment to support Pakistan in developing IT education through the provision and promotion of most modern technologies and methodologies. Our Citizenship and PiL programs are the major part of our overall contribution to the social

and educational uplift of the future generation in Pakistan. We are very pleased to initiate this program in collaboration with the NWFP Government," said Mr. Kamal Ahmed, Country Manager, Microsoft Pakistan.

Out of the same group, teachers are selected to participate in the forum for their country. Finally, the teachers who demonstrate the greatest innovation at the countrywide forum are selected to attend the Worldwide Innovative Teachers Forum.

Improved Reliability & Performance

Windows Vista1 (SP1) is an important update that helps improve the reliability and performance of Windows Vista.

Improvements in reliability
Windows Vista SP1 includes improvements that address many of the most common reasons for which Windows stops responding. Many of the reliability improvements in SP1 are in response to issues that customers reported by using the Windows Error Reporting tool.

Other reliability improvements in Windows Vista SP1 include improvements in wireless computer-to-computer (ad hoc) connections, better peer-to-peer connections, such as using Windows Meeting Space, and many more.

Improvements in performance

Windows Vista SP1 includes many changes that can improve your computer's speed and performance. Here are some of the areas that are improved:

  • Faster copying or extracting files from a compressed mode.
  • Better use of network bandwidth while browsing shared files over a network.
  • Improved performance from Windows ReadyBoost in reducing the time it takes for Windows to wake up from Hibernate and Standby power modes.
  • Better power consumption when your computer screen is idle for a long time.
  • Improved logon experience when using a corporate computer, such as a laptop, outside of the corporate network.
  • Faster opening of large image files.

Improvements in security

You can now use BitLocker to encrypt multiple partitions on your computer's hard disk, rather than just a single partition. Note that BitLocker is only available in Windows Vista Enterprise and Windows Vista Ultimate.

Changes to search
SP1 includes an important change to the way desktop search works in Windows Vista. You can now select a default desktop search service, similar to the way you can select a default search service for web browsers and media players. With SP1, you can now get to your preferred search results from within the Start menu and Windows Explorer.

Changes in memory (RAM) reporting
SP1 also changes how the random access memory (RAM) that is installed in your

computer is reported. Before SP1, the amount of memory reported was equal to the amount of memory that Windows was able to use. In SP1, the amount of memory reported is the amount of memory that is actually installed on your computer. If you have 4 gigabytes (GB) of memory installed, you’ll now see 4 GB of memory reported by features such as System or Performance Information and Tools in Control Panel. This change can only happen if your computer's basic input/output system (BIOS) is capable of displaying that much RAM.

How to get Service Pack 1
You can get SP1 in two different ways: you can install it by using Windows Update, or you can download the installation files from the Microsoft Download Center at

The following top 10 benefits of Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 can help you transform your business process and turn your data into a competitive advantage:

to link their various applications and to the Microsoft Office environment. Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 is natively integrated across all aspects of the solution -from reporting and analysis, to planning and budgeting, to dashboarding and forecasting.

  1. Performance management for all business users

  1. Monitoring, analyzing and planning across the entire organization

Because of high cost, high complexity and the need for significant IT support, most performance management environments limit their access to just a few executives or analysts. Because Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 resides within the Microsoft applications that you use today, it’s now economically feasible for all executives, managers and front-line employees to have the same access to valuable insight from a high-quality performance management application.

  1. Advanced analytic and visualization capabilities

Analysis is a core component of the performance management cycle. An organization is at a competitive advantage if every decision maker in it can quickly and easily perform analysis that helps them make better decisions and execute better against corporate goals and objectives.

Using the capabilities incorporated into Office PerformancePoint Server 2007, people can benefit from a single business data model shared across monitoring, analytics and planning activities. PerformancePoint Server 2007 guides information workers so they can easily monitor what is happening and make better sense of what the data analysis is telling them. The advanced visualization capabilities can help you spot trends and opportunities easily, allowing for better planning for your business.

  1. Aligned and integrated corporate planning

Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 contains robust planning, budgeting and forecasting capabilities that allow for accelerated cycles to help the organization better align critical resources. Planning and budget analysts are able to centrally manage the planning process. They can easily build models that contain the key business rules, assumptions, calculations and other business drivers that enable more people across your organization to participate in the planning process.

  1. Shorter budgeting cycles and broader contribution

One of the big complaints in many organizations is the length of the budgeting

process. From waiting weeks to get the initial cut of the numbers to the time spent waiting for approvals and input from other departments, the process is never a fun one. To address these issues, Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 provides powerful workflow and collaboration functionality that can streamline planning, budgeting and forecasting cycle times.

  1. Accountability from the individual to the enterprise

Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 uses a model-driven approach. Users can create scorecards, dashboards, analytics and plans that align with their own responsibilities and goals, and with the overall goals and objectives of the organization. Providing maximum flexibility, the system accommodates unique departmental business models that synchronize with those above and below them in the organization, as well as across departments and up to the corporate level. So everyone has an up-to-date, consistent view of the data and the most current insight on the entire organization’s performance.

  1. Cross-enterprise view

Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 provides a complete perspective of business performance across enterprise functions such as finance, operations, sales and human resources. PerformancePoint Server 2007 uses SQL Server 2005 to integrate information across disparate enterprise systems and business functions, providing all users with a more strategic and forward-looking view of the business.

A unique capability of PerformancePoint Server 2007 is model-to-model mapping, which allows you to map data from one model, business unit, or plan into the model of another.

  1. Enhanced partnership between IT and business analysts

While IT provides the infrastructure and security for crucial business applications, Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 business modeling tools enable business analysts to use their insight to manage roles, workflows, business rules and information without having to continually rely on IT input. This increases the pace at which business models can be developed, deployed and modified to meet changing business conditions. PerformancePoint Server 2007 also features a user-friendly design and application wizard that business people can use to build their own dashboards and scorecards, and create interactive analytics charts and graphs without the need for IT support.

  1. Built on the Microsoft Business Intelligence platform

Using the Microsoft Business Intelligence

platform, Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 can help you build an enterprise-grade, scalable performance management application. PerformancePoint Server 2007 uses Microsoft Office as its primary interface, so business users can interact with familiar tools like Excel to consume information, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to plans and the performance management cycle.

PerformancePoint Server 2007 also uses the proven data engine of SQL Server 2005 for data integration; an analytical data model that includes a calculation engine and data mining; and a highly flexible and scalable reporting platform to broadcast information to a wide audience. All of this is delivered via the Web in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, providing everyone with a central place to get their business intelligence information.

Microsoft approaches interoperability by design which strives for greater 'out-of-thebox' connectivity for our customers and partners. By design entails not only engineering excellence in our products, but also includes community collaboration with customers, partners and competitors; providing access to our technologies through licensing and translation tools and by engaging in standardssetting activities. The expected outcomes not only include better software, but also an industry that drives greater efficiency among businesses and government entities.

Microsoft Pakistan is working very closely with different government stakeholders to come up with unified approach towards interoperability, and for this Microsoft has planned a series of round table discussions on the topic to get the feedback from government stakeholders.
