Introduction for Windows Vista DVD Maker


Windows DVD Maker is a new application added to Vista, it makes DVD burning a simpler and interesting task; user can create DVD-Video, add video, pictures, and audio to make slide shows for your DVD, user can even customize your DVD menus to use different themes and write the DVD menu text in an Arabic language. After you create a DVD, you can play the DVD in a DVD player and watch your movies and slide shows on TV, DVD Maker lets user create A DVD quickly, complete with professional looking menus with the Arabic characters, a scene selection page so viewers can easily find what they are looking for, and even slide shows using your favorite songs as a sound track. Windows DVD Maker interface is fully localized in the Arabic language with a full support of the Arabic language characters and keyboard.

Windows DVD maker is available only on Home Premium & Ultimate windows vista releases.


Hardware requirements for windows vista DVD maker

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1
  • 1 GB of system memory
  • 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with
  • 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum) 32 bits per pixel
    • Graphics card should support shader 2.0 and the WDDM driver model
  • DVD writable drive
  • Audio output
How to enable Arabic language in Windows Vista

To be able to setup Windows DVD Maker correctly and be able to write with Arabic and English keyboard along in Windows DVD Maker user should follow some steps to set some settings in Windows before heading to the setup wizard of Windows DVD Maker, those setting should be correctly set in the Regional and Language Options within Windows Vista Control Panel.


Steps:

  1. In Windows Vista, Click on the Start Button -> Control Panel -> Classic View
  2. Select Regional and Language Options -> Formats Tab

  3. Make sure that the current format is selected to Arabic settings for example "Arabic (Egypt)"
  4. Then move to Location tab, and make sure the current location selected match the settings for the current format "Egypt"

  5. Go to Keyboards and Languages tab -> click on "Change Keyboards"

DVD Maker Features

Disk title displaying Hijri date and support Arabic language


Disc title field is where the user adds the desired titles for his customized DVD. When the application is launched DVD maker by default generates a default title for the DVD project, this title is usually generated as the DATE the user is customizing his DVD. The Date for the Arabic user that usually generates does support the Arabic Hijri date (Figure.3). Beside the Arabic user can easily change the DVD title and rename the title to any desired Arabic name.

Add and Arrange items on DVD using Arabic Name

To begin a project in DVD maker, the user usually needs to add the content which will be used in the DVD project. Arabic user can easily locate and browse through the files that contain Arabic characters or Arabic filenames, and add them to the DVD project.

  1. Click on "Add Items" on the "Add pictures and videos” to the DVD page.
  2. Locate and select the videos file, Pictures that you want to include on your DVD, and then click "Insert"

Temporary file location (settings dialog):

One of the feature that DVD maker use to ease and smooth the writing process on a DVD, DVD maker stores temporary the files that will be burned to a DVD in a location on the hard drive. User is able to change the temporary directory location to any other desired location on the hard drive if the computer ran out of memory or space, therefore the user can simply change the directory of the temporary files to an Arabic named directory (Firgure.5).

  1. Click on "Options" link in "Add pictures and videos to the DVD" window.
  2. From the DVD settings dialog, and from the temporary files location, user click on "Browse" button and select the desired location, click "OK"

Saving DVD project

After finishing creating the entire process of adding and finalizing the DVD project, Arabic user will have the ability to save the customized DVD project that was just created for later use with a filename that can support the Arabic language and under any desired directory.

  1. Create you own DVD project, Add the desired Files.
  2. Click on "File" menu, select "Save"

Menu Titles

One of the most important features for the home user in Windows DVD maker is to allow the user to change DVD menu and button titles and add the desired titles in Arabic language (Figure.7 ). Arabic user is able to change the title of the Play Button, Scenes Button, Notes Button and Notes content.

  1. Start a project and add the desired files.
  2. Click the "Font" box, and then select the font for the menu text.
  3. In the "Disc title" box, you can type the DVD title in Arabic.
  4. You can change the following buttons labels (Play button, Scenes button, and Notes buttons) by type text in the front of each box and you can type labels in Arabic.
  5. Finally click "Change text" to confirm the changes (Figure.8)

Managing music in slide show

If a user is using DVD maker to make a slideshow for some kind of media such as picture or whatever and wants to add a background music for the current project, user could simply use the Managing music in slide show feature that allow the Arabic user to add the desired background music. Arabic user could use this feature to add the desired Arabic music files that are located on the hard drive, and also managing those files through the DVD maker.

  1. Start a project with DVD maker and add the desired files to it
  2. Click on "Slideshow" button, and then click on the “Add Music”.
  3. Choose the desire Arabic music files (Figure.9), click on Add
  4. Manage the music files you just add to the way you like and in your order (Figure.10)

Known Issues
Number Display in Aspects Ratio

In DVD aspects ratio in the dialog of the DVD options the user will notice that there is a bug that displays the ratio number on the right side in English numbers, but the left numbers are displayed in Hindi number.




Wrong reading order in DVD Title

When having a DVD title for your project that consist of 2 languages such as the Arabic and English language, the title usually appear with a wrong reading order in the preview section in DVD maker.
