Farsi (Persian) Language


Farsi (Persian) Keyboard Support for Windows XP

Steps to add the Farsi (Persian) language on the keyboard:
  • Open "Regional and Language Options" from control panel OR from start menu -> Run "intl.cpl".
  • Select the "Language" tab.
  • Check "Install files for Complex Script and right-to-left languages (Including Thai)".
  • Click "Apply" to proceed.
  • Click "Details" button.
  • Click "Add" button from "Input Language" list box select "Farsi (Persian)".
  • Finally, click "OK" button
Now you can select Farsi (Persian) from the taskbar and start entering Farsi (Persian) text.

To get hold of the fonts that support Farsi (Persian):

  1. Microsoft Sans Serif
  2. Tahoma

Technical overview(s)

  1. You need to download the Arabic True Type Open Font Pack.
  2. If you are running Windows 98 or ME you need to install first the lama.dll patch:

    Windows 98 with Arabic User Interface (Localized)
    Windows 98 with English User Interface (Enabled)
    Windows ME with Arabic User Interface (Localized)
    Windows ME with English User Interface (Enabled)
Notes:

Farsi (Persian) has 4additional characters in its keyboard than the Arabic keyboard.

Note:

To have the ability for Sorting Farsi (Persian) characters you should download Service Pack 1 for Windows XP from the Microsoft Windows Update Web Site.
