Introduction to Outlook 2007:

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 provides you with a comprehensive time and information manager. Using new features such as Instant Search and the To-Do Bar, you can organize and instantly locate the information that you need. New calendar sharing capabilities, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 technology, and improved access to Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 information enable you to safely share data that is stored in Office Outlook 2007 with coworkers, friends, and family, no matter where those people are located. Office Outlook 2007 makes it easier for you to prioritize and control your time, allowing you to focus on the things that matter most. This article provides an overview of Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, with an emphasis on new and improved features.

Features of Microsoft Office Outlook 2007:

Instant Search:

Instant Search was one of the features that were enhanced in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to use the new searching technology enhancement that was integrated in Microsoft Windows Vista.

With Microsoft Windows Search components installed on a PC that works with earlier version on Windows System such as Windows XP, users could simply use the new and improved search in, Arabic e-mails (or email messages), contacts or with more details specified by the user with Microsoft Outlook 2007

Note: Microsoft Windows Vista includes windows desktop search, it enables instant search automatically when using Microsoft Outlook 2007

Steps for Instant Search:

  1. Launch Outlook 2007
  2. From the Main menu, select "Tools" -> choose "Instant Search"
  3. Write whatever you are searching for in the search box, hit "Enter"-> to have an accurate search result, user could use Filters fields (Figure.2)
  4. From the Main menu, select "Tools" -> choose "Instant Search" -> "Expand the Query Builder"
  5. Enter the specific words for the query search, and the search result will appear directly

Attachment previewing

To ease the process of previewing the attachments that usually found in an email message, Microsoft Outlook 2007 was enhanced with a new feature that allow the user to preview any attachment simply in the reading pane, such as Word, Excel or even a picture file to be previewed simply in the Reading Pane. Arabic User is also able to preview Microsoft Office documents that contain Arabic content such as Word or Excel Documents.

Steps for Previewing and Attached Document:

  1. Launch Outlook 2007
  2. From the Inbox Mail Folder, choose any message that contain any attachment, right click on the attachment and choose "Preview", then click on the "Preview File" button

To-Do Bar

The new To-Do Bar integrates tasks, e-mail messages flagged for follow up, upcoming appointments, and calendar information in one place to let the user be able to track all of his work easily, simply & to give the user a clear view of the top priorities for the day. Arabic user will also be able to track all of the tasks and flagged email that contain Arabic characters or any Arabic content.

(RSS) Feeds

one of the new added features that will provide the user to keep track of new information and news updates on a favorite website of content publisher provider is the RSS. RSS feeds now can be retrieved from the website directly to the Microsoft Outlook 2007 and users will no longer have to visit different web sites to obtain the latest information they need. Arabic Users and Arabic RSS feeds subscribers will be able to retrieve RSS feeds that contain Arabic content to the Microsoft Outlook 2007.

Electronic Business Cards

Electronic Business Cards allow the user to customize his own contacts information, and also to add logos and photos, making contacts more personally and easier to locate. Electronic Business Cards can be exchanged easily through e-mail messages, and can be saved to the user Contacts folder. Arabic user will be able to use Electronic Business Cards to show their contacts Arabic content easily without any problems.

Steps For Modifying Electronic Business Card:

  1. Launch Outlook 2007
  2. From the Main menu, click on "GO", choose "Contacts"
  3. From the "Contacts" view, double click on any contact for modifying
  4. Right click on the "Card" view that appear, and choose "Edit Business Card"
  5. After finishing the needed modification to the Business Card, click "Ok"-> to send a business card by email (Figure.9)
  6. From the "Contacts" view, Right click on any contact and choose "Send a Business Card"-> to add a business card in an email message (Figure.10)
  7. From a new email message window, select "Business Card" button from the upper pain
  8. Click on the desired "Business Card" to add, or Click "Other Business Cards"

InfoPath 2007 integration in Outlook

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 are now fully integrated with Office InfoPath 2007 which makes it possible to embed an InfoPath form within an e-mail message, and send it to people along with a request that they fill in the needed information. The only actions required of the recipient is only replying to the sent message and completing the embedded form. Arabic user can easily notice that embedded Arabic InfoPath forms can be sent along with Arabic content in it, and also accepting users who could fill those forms also with Arabic Content.

Other Features

Email Messages Encoding

To Be able to set the email messages that is usually received with a wrong Unicode or an English Unicode, Arabic user was given the ability to be able to change an email message(s) encoding from any language to Arabic language to let the Arabic user read the Arabic email message content in a correct way without having the un-readable characters in the message.

Steps For Modifying Electronic Business Card:

  1. Launch Outlook 2007
  2. Click on the "Inbox" folder -> double click on the message that needs Unicode change
  3. From the Email message window, click on "Other Actions" from the task pane ->
    "Encoding" -> then select the language that apply which is "Arabic – Windows"
