AMMAN, Jordan (August, 2013) — As per its strategy, Jordan Dubai Islamic Bank (JDIB) has implemented Microsoft’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), making it the first bank in the Kingdom to benefit from this solution. The VDI solution introduces a new way of managing user desktops through enabling the virtualization of Windows server, where the hardware and software are located separately. Thereby, the user is allowed to access the desktop environment from any machine or branch in the bank.

Mr. Sami Afghani, JDIB CEO said that we care to be in the front line of financial institutions implementing cutting-edge technology, that reduced operational cost and capital expenditure as electricity, allowed us to utilize equipment and desk space much more efficiently, gain virtual control on servers ,and provided more security for static and financial client data.

Since the VDI entails hosting all users’ desktops on a main server, the JDIB accordingly saved manpower operation expenses. Installing new programs, updating existing programs and providing other support services are all done remotely.

Mr. Hussein Malhas, Microsoft Jordan’s Country Manager, said that our aim behind deploying this technology in Jordan is to enhance work efficiency in all business sectors in the country, and JDIB’s implementation of cutting-edge technology such as VDI is the first step in solidifying Microsoft’s efforts to support the banking sector by improving productivity, creating new opportunities and growth potential in the Jordanian financial sector.

On the technology side, the VDI boasts central support and management for all users’ desktops and offers easier deployment and patch management compared to standard PC environments. It also ensures high accessibility for users through Internet connection between the desktop and the server.

To further the positive experience of implementing this technology and to maximize on its great benefits, the JDIB is planning to employ this solution across all their branches as well as their headquarters.
