Amman, March 2014 - The Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) provided 14 final year students and fresh graduates from public and private Jordanian universities with the opportunity to showcase applications and games they developed for the Windows 8 Store during MIC’s Windows 8 Apps Demo which took place at the Founder Theater in the Royal Scientific Society. The participants presented their applications and games in front of a group of Microsoft Jordan partners and representatives of leading companies and emerging start-ups within the ICT sector.

The participants joined a two and a half month MIC Internship Program. The Program comprised technical sessions, self-learning modules and mentorship, as well as hosted professional ICT instructors who delivered training on designing and managing apps and games that will be published on the Windows 8 Store. The training workshops were geared towards honing the interns’ technical skills, in addition to publishing developed apps on the Windows 8 Store.

At the end of the Program, the top three winners were selected by a judging panel based on an evaluation process that determined the most innovative and efficient apps. The winners included Zainab Al-Haidary and Ahmad Abbad from the German Jordanian University, as well as Ghada Abu Yahya from the University of Jordan, all of whom developed apps within the health, events management and real estate sectors.

“The MIC Internship Program allowed the participants to acquire technical programming skills that enhance their employability prospects. They also gained interpersonal skills, as well as a set of tools that cover presentations and project marketing strategies, among others, all of which will significantly help them upon entering the job market. This Program is closely aligned with Microsoft Jordan’s nationwide objectives with regards to boosting employment rates for youth,” stated Microsoft Jordan Country Manager Hussein Malhas.

The MIC Internship Program was organized in collaboration with Nokia Jordan and Oasis500. The top three interns were presented with Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphones and were offered the chance to take part in Oasis500’s entrepreneurship training.
