Commercial Bank of Kuwait (CBK) has recently deployed Microsoft technology to renovate the bank's IT infrastructure to improve customer satisfaction and to offer new services, starting with online corporate banking.

The bank is now using solutions based on the Microsoft .Net framework, and other technology from Hostfront, to link together all of CBK's delivery channels into a single interface, giving bank customers consistent experiences across delivery channels and 24/7 availability. Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 will be adopted as a next step to complement these solutions and integrate the bank's various back-end and front-end systems.

Sherif Seddik, Regional General Manager - Sales, Marketing and Services for Microsoft Middle East & Africa, said: "Microsoft Kuwait is working closely with our customers and partners in the financial sector to support them in taking advantage of the latest technologies to enrich customer experience and be more competitive in the market. Financial organizations ultimately want to provide ease and convenience for their customers and we believe that the Microsoft technology which CBK has selected will help them meet that objective."

The solution was jointly developed by Microsoft and its local partner Safat IT, a leading developer of services and solutions in Kuwait. The Online Banking solution emphasizes the simplicity and ease with which CBK customers can bank online with 24/7 accessibility to their data. The solution paves the way for the Commercial Bank of Kuwait to implement an integration platform based on Microsoft BizTalk Server which will host new and existing electronic channels. By creating a single integrated platform, the bank will be able to improve data consistency, reduce duplication of data and enhance flexibility. The bank will also be able to deploy new banking solutions and integrate them much more quickly and cost effectively, and to manage its systems much more efficiently.

"We are keen to adopt the best technology. I must say that our researches have proven Microsoft's the best for our future plans. It fits our main three areas of concern; user friendliness, upgradeability and cost of maintenance" Mohammed Al Faisali, Head of Information Technology at CBK said. "Efficiency and reliability of the service we provide is the key to customer satisfaction, and customer satisfaction is paramount to CBK. We believe in the expertise of Microsoft within the banking industry and this cooperation enables us to respond to our customers' needs more promptly and accurately" Al Faisali added.

Adopting the corporate online banking solution gives CBK a push forward in its customer service, speeding up banking processes and providing ease of use and convenience to its clients.

Complementing this solution at a later stage by using the integration platform will reduce the administration and monitoring effort to a single connection, reduce time to value and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) therefore bridging the gap between IT and business and enabling IT to fulfill the business needs in a shorter time and minimal effort. It will improve accuracy and efficiency of planning; creating a source of information for many reports that will help both business and IT to plan ahead.

The Web Corporate Internet Banking project represents a true partnership between CBK and Safat IT, complimented by a great support from Microsoft as a technology provider. We are glad to work with CBK for the deployment of technology to provide better services to their client base through a solution-based model. Our partnership with Microsoft has always been based on responding to the local market needs through a dedicated approach of ownership"" commented Dr Memdoh Naji, General Manager of Safat IT.

"By adopting the online banking solution and leveraging it with the advanced application integration capabilities that Microsoft provides, CBK has established a major building block within its banking systems which will not only integrate its existing systems, but will also allow the bank to develop new solutions much more easily and cost effectively as they introduce new products and customer services in the future. We are very pleased that CBK and its partners chose Microsoft technology to build this solution on, and we look forward to working with them in future," concluded Omar Draghmeh, EPG Sales Manager for Microsoft Kuwait.
