Amman, July 2013 – Under the patronage of the American Ambassador in Jordan, Stuart E. Jones; Microsoft Jordan and the American Chamber of Commerce “AmCham” has announced a partnership to launch an online portal “The Employability Portal” for the Jordanian youth and workforce to aid their future career path. The portal provides available courses to develop professional skills, a job search function as well as youth mentoring by professionals and social networking.
The announcement was made on Monday 29th of July in Microsoft Jordan offices in Amman. In attendance was Hussein Malhas, Microsoft Jordan’s Country Manager, Mohammed N. S. Bataineh, Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan, Samir Mansour, CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan, Silatech’s Chief Operating Officer, Martin Roeske, including a number of press attendees and several staff members of the US Embassy.
Malhas welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating: “Microsoft Jordan has always aimed to increase employability and job creation in the Kingdom. It gives us great pleasure to announce this joint venture with AmCham which will drive the objectives and ensure the continuity of the initiative.”
Mohammed N. S. Bataineh, Chairman of American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan has also expressed his strong belief that this employability portal will help “bridge the opportunity divide for young Jordanians through the use of technology”. He also added: “Thanks again to our new partners, we will make sure that the implementation part will reflect aspirations of Microsoft, AmCham and other stakeholders."
“The Employability Portal” a joint initiative of a regional portal by Microsoft Jordan and the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan along with the other employability portals in the region will aspire to empower over 3 million youth across the Middle East and Africa upon its launch. Jordan’s Employability portal should be launched within the current year ahead.
This will be implemented in association with Silatech, a regional non-profit organization, working to expand economic opportunities for youth throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). As a social initiative, it develops employability skills and opportunities and promotes entrepreneurship, access to capital and markets and the engagement and participation of young people in economic and social development.
“AmCham” is a voluntary non-profit member based organization that contributes to economic development through the promotion of U.S. Jordan regional trade and investment, business development, public policy advocacy, human resources development and business community outreach.
