Live@edu public schools contest – Prizes Announcement
Beirut September 2nd 2009

Wednesday 2nd September, Her Excellency Minister of Education, Bahia El Hariri, carried out the electronic draw to select the winners of the Live@Edu Competition in the presence of Fady Yark, Director General of Education from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Leila Serhan, Microsoft Lebanon Country Manager and Mohammed Helal, Education Account Manager at Microsoft. Ten student were selected based on their entries in the competition wining prizes including HTC phones , X-Boxes and music devices. The next 10 winners will be announced in October and the final 10 winners will be announced in February. This is a precedent for public schools as it is the first serious step taken to integrate technology in the everyday life of a public school student.

Live@EDU, a dynamic collaboration between Microsoft Lebanon and the Ministry of Education launched earlier this year, aims at encouraging students to use the internet as means of communication. This initiative targets public school across Lebanon and aims to bring technology to all educational bodies so that every student has a fair chance to take advantage of the digital era we are living in. To promote and encourage the students to get involved in this program, Microsoft designed a competition where students have to access the http://mail.live.com and initiate the email given to them by MEHE, and consequently send an email about their vision on electronic communication and its importance in our everyday life.

Live@Edu

Microsoft Live@edu provides a simple, practical way to deliver advanced online communications and collaboration for everyone in schools community. At no additional cost; Microsoft provides: hosted email, calendars, online workspaces, mobile alerts, document sharing, instant messaging, blogs, videoconferencing, mobile access and address books, all accessible on Windows, Mac and mobile devices. It also gives the students and alumni complimentary hosted email from Microsoft Live@edu, with a custom domain name selected by the education institute.
