The Open Value Licensing program was designed specifically for small to midsize businesses with 5 to 250 desktop PCs to address common business needs. With an Open Value Licensing agreement, you can acquire the latest Microsoft technology, along with the training, support, and benefits that help ensure that you get the most out of your information technology (IT) investment—all under one agreement. Open Value Licensing is simple, flexible, and affordable, so you can spend your time managing your business, not your software. Open Value is a three-year Volume Licensing agreement in which you pay annually for the right to run the same version of software across your company and to upgrade to the latest versions as they are released. With Open Value Licensing, you'll receive: | • | A cost-effective way to get licenses for your PC environment. | | • | Access to Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (only available through Microsoft Volume Licensing programs). | | • | The option to purchase the Windows Vista operating system upgrade at a discounted price. |
Simplify license managementUsing one agreement makes it easier to manage your licenses. In addition to instantly tracking the status of any license online, you can: | • | Support users with different software needs. It can be difficult to track which software versions are installed on which computers, particularly if you support multiple locations or departments. Open Value Licensing allows you to run any software version on any desktop PC, making it simpler to support users with different software needs. | | • | Pay once a year for what you use. With Open Value Licensing, you can install new software whenever you need—and then pay for it all at the end of the year. | | • | Run any software version. Tracking and managing licenses can be challenging, especially if your users are running different software versions. Microsoft Open Value Licensing helps you to control the upgrade cycle with the latest software releases and allows any software version to run. | | • | Deploy the software you need now with new version rights and flexible version management. Open Value Licensing grants you the rights to run any version of the software so that you can stay current and upgrade when you want. |
Gain more control over your IT investmentNew versions of licensed software are automatically included in your agreement, so you can upgrade your desktop PCs whenever you need, without the overhead of tracking new deployments. You'll be able to: | • | Control the software upgrade cycle—upgrade instead of downgrade. Upgrade all your desktop PCs to the latest version, instead of downgrading as you add new hardware to maintain a standard desktop PC. | | • | Maintain a standard desktop PC. As your company grows and you need to purchase new desktop PCs, it is easy to integrate the licenses from the new desktop PCs into your existing Open Value agreement through Microsoft Software Assurance. |
Better manage your software costsVolume pricing helps you stretch your software budget. Plus, you can reduce up-front costs and have the option of spreading payments across three years, so you can more easily predict and plan your technology budget. | • | Only pay for what you use. If your business operates under fluctuating business conditions, Open Value Licensing allows you to pay less in the years when employee counts are down and pay for additional licenses in the years that your business is growing. | | • | Gain predictable planning and budgeting. If you need longer-term visibility into IT budget planning, Open Value Licensing offers predictable annual payments to help you make better-informed decisions about what IT projects need to happen each year. | | • | Spread out payments. If you have a limited budget, you can amortize your software costs during a three-year term. With reduced up-front costs and your payments spread out, you can afford to get the software you need now—without interest rates and associated fees. | | • | Streamline the order process. Microsoft offers prices of up to 50 percent lower on your first-year payment when you own licenses for the current or previous version of any company-wide software. | | • | Lower total cost of ownership. By standardizing on the Microsoft Enterprise Platform, you may be able to lower your total cost of ownership (TCO). | | • | More value for software. Open Value Licensing includes discounts on frequent upgrades and company-wide purchasing as well as an agreement that helps you better predict your costs during a three-year term. | | • | Simplified budgetary planning. Established prices for all products selected at the time the agreement is signed help you control your budget during a three-year term. |
