A New Breed of Application Server

Windows .NET Server is a new breed of application server, with inherent support for XML Web Services, distributed transactions, and the latest Web application development technology, ASP.NET. The sessions in this track illustrate how Windows .NET Server provides more than the basic features you’d expect in an application server. Learn how to integrate the different services inside an enterprise or between enterprises using XML Web Services. Dive into the technology of UDDI. Understand how to scale and improve the performance of the .NET Framework and ASP.NET.

Enhanced Platform Services

As an application server, Windows Server offers an extraordinary array of features, some of which many developers overlook. Sessions in this track concentrate on understanding the key Windows Server services and how to leverage them to build great enterprise applications. Learn about modeling and accessing data in Active Directory®. Find out how to write applications using Real Time Communications. See how to use the new IPv6, and understand the new COM+ enhancements in Windows .NET Server.

Migration & Interoperability

This track illustrates how to interoperate seamlessly with other platforms. Learn how to use J2EE from the .NET Framework, and how to interoperate between Windows and a mainframe computer. Sessions will also show you how to migrate your applications from another system, another platform, or another language to Windows Server. Learn how to migrate C/C++ applications from Sun Solaris to Windows. Discover how you can move from Java to .NET with real world examples. See how you can move from Windows NT® 4.0 to Windows .NET Server. Learn how to extend IBM mainframe applications using COM+ and the .NET Framework.

Trustworthy Computing at Work

What does "Trustworthy Computing" mean? Sessions in this track explore the key attributes of availability, security, and privacy in an application server environment. Learn how to write secure and hack resistant applications from an expert in the field. Discover the new GXA Web security services architecture. Learn how to create high availability applications and how to improve server uptime and reliability. See how security is ensured in ASP.NET and understand the IPSEC implementation in Windows .NET Server.

Scalable Computing

Windows .NET Server provides the most scalable platform for the Enterprise — near-linear scalability for very large databases, applications, and messaging systems. Windows Server scales to support thousands of online transaction processing users or mail-client and messaging-client systems — all on a single, large symmetric-multiprocessing server, at a fraction of the cost of a comparable UNIX server. Learn about the scalability and performance in Windows .NET Server. Discover how to run High Performance Applications on the Itanium Processor Family. See how to build scalable applications using DataCenter. Learn how to exploit the experts’ tips and tricks of scalability. And dive deep into technical topics such as thread scheduling internals—delving into process, thread and memory issues.

64-bit Computing

The introduction of the Itanium processor is pushing the limit of scalability of Windows .NET Server to new dimensions. With access to 8 terabytes of virtual memory per process, Windows .NET Server 64-bit Edition is uniquely positioned to play a dramatic role in the enterprise. Learn how to get ready for this new Itanium architecture. Discover how to run High Performance Applications on the Itanium Processor Family. See the future of hardware from Intel, NEC and Unisys and how your development might be affected by those massive multi-processor 64-bit systems.

Hands-On Labs

The Hands-On Labs give you an in-depth look at the technologies that interest you the most. Each lab is especially designed with different levels of training in mind, to accommodate developers who want everything from a simple overview of the technology to the most detailed education.
