What’s New in Online in Microsoft Money 2004?

Microsoft Money 2004 is very similar to Money 2003 in its online behavior. Customers using Microsoft Money 2002 or 2003 can easily upgrade to Microsoft Money 2004.

    Banking

Microsoft Money 2004 makes account management easier with enhanced Register Reconciliation, which accurately matches transactions from the consumer’s bank with the check registry in their Microsoft Money file.

    Investments

Microsoft Money 2004 improves the handling of Options received in an OFX feed.
  • Options are created as Calls or Puts depending upon the information received from the brokerage firm.
  • If Microsoft Money receives a Sell to Close transaction on a non-existent position, Microsoft Money creates the position with a price of zero, so that the closure may be processed.
  • Microsoft Money 2004 updates positions of non-existent short options by adding the appropriate Option transaction with zero cash basis.

Microsoft Money 2004 Online Services Policy

Microsoft® Money 2004 Standard enables your customers to use up to two (2) years of Online Services and one (1) year of product support. Your customers will be able to use the Online Services in Microsoft Money 2004 Standard for a period of two (2) years from installation of the product or until September 1, 2006 (whichever is earlier).

NOTE: Online Services refers to features of Microsoft Money 2004 that give your customers the ability to perform certain online financial tasks through the Microsoft Money client software. The ability to perform certain Online Services (such as online banking) may require that your customers obtain these services separately from your financial institution, with or without a fee.

For customers that utilize Online Services, there will be notifications within Microsoft Money 2004 in advance of the date when Online Services expire. To continue using Online Services in Microsoft Money, your customers can upgrade to the then-current version of Microsoft Money to take advantage of the new and improved features of the most current version.

If your customers elect not to upgrade to the then-current version of Microsoft Money after the online service period ends, they will not be able to automatically update their accounts and investment values inside Microsoft Money. They will still be able to view and edit their financial data inside Microsoft Money and to manually update their accounts and investment values.

Online Services generally include the following functionality within Microsoft Money 2004:
  • Connections to financial institution OFX server to download transaction, balance, and statement information for banking, credit card, investment, and 401(k) accounts.
  • Imports of transaction, balance, and statement information directly from your financial institution *
  • Creation of payment and transfer instructions in Money and sending to financial institution’s OFX server.

Microsoft Money spells out this policy when customers first install Microsoft Money 2004. Depending upon the version installed, Microsoft Money displays the appropriate limits.

Online Services Policy for Earlier Versions of Microsoft Money

While Microsoft Money 2003 has a finite support period for some online services such as Quotes and Roaming, other online services that do have an expiration period do not have a limit in Microsoft Money 2003 or earlier versions of Microsoft Money. However, our policy is to maintain and update branding data required for online connectivity for supported versions only. The MSN Money Financial Institution team does not propagate branding changes for retired versions, because re-branding usually generates support issues.

Customers who currently use unsupported versions of Microsoft Money should be able to continue their connections. However if your institutions should change your branding or connection information, your older Microsoft Money customers will not receive these changes.
