Test Your Microsoft Money Brand

NOTE: The following instructions assume you have applied to be a Microsoft Money financial institution partner at our partner enrollment site and you have been sent test instructions to review your brand. If you have not applied yet, click here to apply.

If you have already applied, but have not received your test branding instructions, make sure that you have supplied the correct documents as outlined at our Partnership Steps page.

Microsoft will test to ensure that provided branding URLs connect. However, it is the responsibility of our financial institution partners to ensure that any data or files downloaded from those URLs contain accurate information. Test them carefully before approving them. Careful testing will avoid support costs caused by posting inaccurate information. Review the links below for step-by-step instructions for testing your files.

Install Microsoft Money
To test your branding files, you must install the various versions of Money you will be supporting. You can either install and test each version sequentially, or install all versions. Installing sequentially is the easiest method for one-time testing of branding files. Installing multiple versions is best for long-term support purposes.

How to install and test versions sequentially:

  1. Install the earliest version of Money you plan on supporting.
  2. When you are prompted, accept the default installation location.
  3. Test the appropriate branding files for the version of Money installed.
  4. When completed, install the next year's version of Money. When you are prompted if you want to upgrade Money, indicate that you do.
  5. Create a new file to test in the new version. Do not just upgrade the older versions' file.
  6. Repeat all steps for each version of Money your financial institution will support.

How to install multiple versions to the same computer:

  1. Multiple year versions of Money may be installed for testing and support purposes, but this is not supported by Microsoft Product Support Services.
  2. Install each version using "Custom" instead of "Express," method when prompted.
  3. Install the earliest year version first, and use a different folder name for each newer version (such as "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\200x" where 200x is the year version).

Important Note: Money installations are supported on Windows XP (Money 2006-Money Plus) and Windows Vista (Money Plus).

Update Money
  1. Open Money.
  2. Open the Sample.mny file which is located in the Money installation location.
  3. On the Tools menu, point to Internet Updates and then click Update now.
  4. Click Connect or Update, depending upon the version of Money.
  5. Once the update is complete, close Money.

Microsoft Money 2006-Plus:

Use the FI Test Tool

  1. Download the FI testing tools listed below and save the tools locally.
  2. FI_Test.exe
  3. FI_Restore.exe
  4. Run FI_Test.exe by double-clicking the executable.
  5. Close and restart the Money client to point to our test branding server.
  6. You are now ready be begin testing with Money.
  7. Once testing has concluded for all versions, run FI_Restore.exe by double-clicking the executable, and then close Money. Doing so will re-point the Money client back to the production branding servers.

NOTE: If you are currently a live financial institution partner with Microsoft Money and want to test re-branding, follow the Re-branding instructions first before returning here and following the appropriate test instructions.

  • If your implementation supports Direct or 2-way OFX communications between Microsoft Money and an OFX server, follow the 2-way OFX test instructions.
