Microsoft Agent Distribution License —
mail-in process

Instructions for submitting printed license requests

A distribution license for Microsoft Agent can be obtained via a convenient online process. This process does require the online form to be viewed and completed using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser.

If you cannot successfully complete this online process for whatever reason, you may apply for licensing and distribution capabilities for Microsoft Agent by following these steps (failing to do so will delay the processing of your request):

  1. Select the link below to download the License and Distribution Agreement (Microsoft® Agent) document.

  2. Save the file to your disk and then unzip it. The document is provided in a WinZip compressed archive. If you are not using the Compressed Folders feature of the Windows Me or the Windows XP operating systems, you may need to use a third party product like link to non-Microsoft siteWinZip or other compatible file compression tool in order to extract the documents from this file.

  3. Open the license agreement document file in Microsoft Word (or WordPad) and print out two copies of the entire document.

Note, do not modify the document in any way prior to printing the two copies of the document. Except for areas where you are required to provide information or sign, do not modify the document in any way after printing. Any modifications to this license agreement will void the license.

  4. Read the license agreement entirely. Fill out both printed copies completely and legibly. Incomplete applications cannot be accepted and will require re-submission.

Note especially, the blank lines for the date and licensee name to be completed in the first paragraph of the first page. If you are an individual and not a corporation (company), put your own name in the blank for corporation (company).

Note especially, the blank lines in Section 9 for your responses with the name, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address where notices and requests should be sent. It is important to provide all of these (with the exception of the fax number, if you do not have one).

  5. Sign both copies of the license agreements. You should sign and complete the blank lines on the right hand side of the page. The agreements will be countersigned by Microsoft on the left hand side of the page.

Note, the signature should be on the blank line that appears above the word "By". Complete the blank lines for the licensee (with the company or individual name), printed name and title of the signatory, and signature date.

Note, to sign the license, you must be of legal age.

  6. Send the two original signed copies of the entire license agreement by postal mail to:

        MICROSOFT CORPORATION
        One Microsoft Way
        Redmond WA 98052-6399
        Attn: Microsoft Agent Licensing

Note, you must send in all of the printed pages of the document, including Exhibit A and the End-User License Agreement.

Note, do not send your license request by facsimile transmission. Such requests are not accepted.

Note, to expedite arrival of the license agreements to us, you may send them via special delivery service, at your own cost.
  7. Your license agreement is not effective until countersigned by Microsoft. Processing time may take one to six weeks from its delivery to us. Microsoft will return a countersigned copy back to you by postal mail.

  3. Did you correctly complete and sign both copies of the license agreement documents?

ACF/ACA Files for the Microsoft Agent Characters

When scripting Microsoft Agent within Web pages and applications, developers may write their code to load characters in .ACS file format and/or the combination of .ACF and .ACA file formats. Please refer to the Character Data page for more information about the usage of these different character file formats.

If you choose to script your Web pages and applications to load the Genie, Merlin, Peedy or Robby Microsoft Agent characters in their .ACF and .ACA file formats, and also wish to obtain these files for the purpose of hosting them on your own Web server, then a distribution license for Microsoft Agent is also required. If these .ACF and .ACA format files for Genie, Merlin, Peedy and Robby are genuinely required for your Web server, you may request them in writing to the same address above only if you already hold a current distribution license for Microsoft Agent or include a separate note to this effect, accompanying your distribution license request.

Note, the .ACF and .ACA format files for these Microsoft Agent characters are not necessarily required to use them in conjunction with Web pages. Please do not request these character files if you do not need them or have not scripted your Web pages to utilize them. They serve no useful purpose otherwise.
