The next time you use a Microsoft Mouse or Natural Keyboard or even a Microsoft Joystick, think of Paul Henderson. He manages the engineers who create the software for these and other popular input devices.

One of the key differences that Paul notices between Microsoft and other companies is that he can go off and get the privacy he needs to solve problems, yet still be in the vicinity of key people with whom he needs to discuss issues. "The magnitude of the knowledge here is incredible. There's nothing like being able to talk to someone who's working on a piece of software, like Windows or NT - actually talk to the person who's writing the code. If you want to get something done and need help, you can get someone out here who's already done it and find the help you need. There's just a wealth of knowledge here to call on."

But Paul is good at giving help as well. Back when he had more free time - before becoming a husband and a father of two - he volunteered on community projects including Project Compute, a program that teaches inner-city kids computer skills. He has worked with Zion Preparatory Academy School in Seattle. Paul also served as President of BAM (Blacks at Microsoft) and still remains active with the organization.

Paul thinks the cultural blend at Microsoft provides the global perspective necessary to keep it the world leader. And to help provide the best services to markets, and to serve markets that would otherwise go untapped. "I've been able to travel outside of the U.S. for Microsoft just to see how things are in different countries."
