Graphite on Paper
24" x 18"

Tracy Miller b.1966
Miller's graphite drawings are studies around the idea of still life. While the tradition of still life painting goes back some 1,000 years, Miller's view of the tradition is completely of the moment. She relies on inspiration not only from nature, but also on items picked up in the neighborhood grocery story, delivered from the local Chinese restaurant, or as seen on TV. She scrawls, scribbles and scratches her images together using a complex range of shades and tones of graphite. Her approach echoes the early styles of such Pop artists as Tom Wesselman and Andy Warhol.
