More Information and System Requirements
System Requirements
You'll need the following software to work through the samples in this book:
- Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003
- Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft .NET Server
The minimum hardware specification for your development PC is a 450 MHz
Pentium II-class processor, with a minimum of 128 MB of RAM if you're running
Microsoft Windows 2000, and 256 MB of RAM if you're running Microsoft Windows XP
or Windows .NET Server. You'll need about 5 GB of free hard disk space to install
Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003.
Visual Studio .NET 2003 includes emulators of a Windows CE .NET and a
Pocket PC 2003 device, so a real handheld device is not essential. However, if
you want to test applications on a real device, you'll need the following hardware
and software:
- A Pocket PC 2000 or 2002 device or a Windows CE .NET 4.1 or later
device
- ActiveSync 3.6 or later (download from the Mobile Devices Web site at www.microsoft.com/mobile/downloads)
- Serial/USB synchronization cable or infrared to synchronize to the
desktop PC. Once the device has set up a partnership with your
development PC, you can use Ethernet (or wireless Ethernet), if your
device supports it.
Installing the Sample Files
The download link opens an InstallShield executable file containing a license agreement. To copy the sample files onto your hard disk,
click the link to run the executable and then accept the license agreement that is presented. By default, the sample files
will be copied to the folder \My Documents\Microsoft Press\Compact Framework, although you'll be given an opportunity to change that
destination folder during the installation process. This setup program is based on Windows Installer 2.0. If you do not have
Windows Installer 2.0 on your machine, it will be installed for you. In order to install Windows Installer 2.0, you must
have Administrator privileges.
Uninstalling the Sample Files
To remove the sample files, make the appropriate selection from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
