More Information and System Requirements
System Requirements
The sample site will run on a system with the minimum Commerce Server hardware requirements
documented in the Commerce Server 2002 Installation Guide:
- 400 MHz or faster Pentium-compatible CPU
- 256 MB of RAM
- 100 MB of hard disk space to install services
- 100 MB hard disk space to install site content and databases
- CD-ROM drive
- Network adapter card (10 MBps or greater bandwidth recommended)
- Windows 2000 compatible VGA or higher-resolution monitor set to 800-by-600-pixel resolution or higher
- Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
You can use a single computer running both Commerce Server and SQL Server, or you can run Commerce Server
and SQL Server on separate computers.
Installing the Sample Site
The download link opens a self-extracting executable file containing a license agreement and the sample site made
available as a PUP file. To copy the PUP file onto your hard disk,
click the link to run the executable and then accept the license agreement that is presented. By default, the PUP file
will be copied to the folder C:\Microsoft Press\BuildCommerce2002, although you'll be given an opportunity to change that
destination folder during the extraction process.
To install the site, perform the following steps:
- Double-click the PUP file. This will run the Commerce Site Packager.
- Select Quick Unpack, and then click Next.
- Accept the default site name and IIS Web site.
- Enter the name of the database server where the Commerce Server databases will reside, and
then click Next.
- Accept the default name for the data warehouse resource. Enter the name of the Analysis Server
where the data warehouse will reside, and accept the default name of the database. Click OK.
- Accept the defaults for the Profile Schema Definition, Site Terms Definition, and Expression
Definition, and then click Next.
- Accept the defaults for the Profile System Connection String, Schema Definition scripts, and Data Population scripts
and click OK.
- Click Finish after unpacking is complete.
The commerce site will be unpacked to a Web site named FourthCoffee. The unpacking process will also create the Business Desk application as a Web site named FourthCoffeeBizDesk. The site pages will be installed on the Web server in the Inetpub\FourthCoffee directory. The site database will be named FourthCoffee_commerce, and the data warehouse will be named FourthCoffee_dw.
