More Information and System Requirements
System Requirements
You can use any system that will run Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 efficiently to build
and run most of the examples. The authors targeted Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003
Professional Edition. If you're using one of the standard edition products such as
Microsoft Visual C# .NET, Microsoft Visual Basic .NET, or Microsoft Visual C++ .NET,
all of the macros discussed in the book should work; however, because the add-ins
were written in all three languages, you'll need the langauge specific to a particular
add-in to compile.
Installing the Sample Files
The download link opens an .msi file containing a license agreement. To copy the sample files onto your hard disk,
click the link to run the executable and then accept the license agreement that is presented. By default, the sample files
will be copied to the folder \My Documents\Microsoft Press\InsideVSNETSrc, although you'll be given an opportunity to change that
destination folder during the installation process. This setup program requires Windows Installer 2.0. If you do not have
Windows Installer 2.0 on your machine, you'll need to install Windows Installer before proceeding. In order to
install Windows Installer 2.0, you must have Administrator privileges.
Utilities Note
To install the sample macro project, right-click Macros in Macro Explorer, choose Load Project from the context menu,
and open the \Bin\InsideVSNET.vsmacros file. (You can also find the individual macro modules in the
\Misc\MacroSamples folder.)
Many of the sample macros rely on the InsideVSNET.Utilities assembly. For these macros to work, you need to compile
the \Misc\Utilities project and then copy the InsideVSNET.Utilities.dll file to the Microsoft Visual
Studio .NET\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies folder.
Uninstalling the Sample Files
To remove the sample files, make the appropriate selection from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
