Due dates don't matter
If you’re anything like the typical teenager, most of that homework gets done, in a mad rush the night before it’s due. It’s not like you didn’t have enough time to do it, the teacher gave you a few weeks, but somehow the XBOX , sports and/or TV, managed to take priority? Or perhaps you just plain forgot about it?

The calendar in Windows Vista can help remind you of your homework due dates, your sports games, that movie, your work times and those holidays that are coming up. You can even schedule in some time to procrastinate.

To use Windows Calendar, click the windows start menu, and type “Calendar” in to the search box.

Create appointments

Whether it’s a due date for that project, your friend’s birthday, or a trip to the movies, the “New appointment” button lets you schedule in an entry into the calendar.

You can set up reminders to alert you that the appointment is coming up. Kind of like a digital alarm clock. So for all those homework projects be sure to give yourself plenty of warning.

If there are things you do on a regular basis, like weekly sports game or those public holidays that come around every year, Windows Calendar lets you set up recurring appointments, so you only have to enter it once. The rest will appear automatically.

Make a task list

If you really want to plan ahead then Windows Calendar includes a personal task list, which makes it easy to organise and manage and prioritise your to-do's.

Say you’ve got a big science project to complete, the individual tasks might be:
  • Find books and do some research
  • Write up with hypothesis page
  • Find samples and carry out initial tests
  • Do second batch of tests
  • Write up summary & conclusion
  • Put together display
  • Science project Due
For each task on your list, describe what you need to do, set a deadline, rank the items according to their priority, and keep track of your progress. If you allowed enough time, you’ll find it super easy to get it all done before the due date.

One computer - multiple calendars

If you have a family computer with other user accounts on it then everyone can set up their own calendar - on the same PC. Your family can then get in sync by coordinating personal schedules and comparing them side-by-side in a single view.

Windows Calendar allows each family member to view the calendars of other family members, either selectively or all at once. This is handy if say you want to see if the car will be in use, or invite the friends over.
