About the Committee

Applications submitted to the Deployment Fund are assessed by six Microsoft executives.

Scott Wylie, Microsoft DPE Director

Scott leads the Developer and Platform Strategy Group in New Zealand which means working with the DPE team to excite customers and communities about Microsoft's new and emerging technologies. He’s an old hand at Microsoft NZ and was previously the NZ practice manager for Microsoft Services. Prior to Microsoft he worked in Australia, the UK and the US in a variety of ISV and corporate environments – having started his career in the early 80’s as an IBM 370 assembler programmer! After hours he can be found playing with his band 'President Gas' and spending time with his family.

Brett Roberts, Microsoft National Technology Officer

As National Technology Officer at Microsoft New Zealand, Brett Roberts leads the company’s engagement with government and academic leaders concerning the future direction of high impact technologies and the implication of these trends on social and economic development.

Prior to his current role, Brett was Director of Innovation and responsible for the development of new channels to market and local competitive and security initiatives. With nearly 25 years in the IT industry Brett takes an active interest in the sociological impact of new technologies. He represents Microsoft on issues and initiatives from online safety and privacy through to open standards and digital rights management.

Tapio Sorsa, Microsoft Practice Manager

Tapio migrated to New Zealand from Finland in 1999 where he worked for Oracle as a principal consultant. His current role as Microsoft Practice Manager sees him leading a team of service professionals in an innovative and challenging environment of product development, deployment, and everything in-between. Tapio has an MSc in logistics and materials management from the Helsinki University of Technology and has extensive experience in telecommunications, utilities and government sectors. His previous role at Fronde managing product development and deploying project management methodologies means Tapio has a uniquely 360 degree perspective on the IT industry.
