Funding Boosts Transit and MFAT Microsoft New Zealand is delighted to announce two new Innovation Fund projects following their March funding round. Transit New Zealand (TNZ) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) have been successful in gaining a total of $188,000 to develop innovative prototype solutions using Microsoft technology platforms. TNZ together with e-Spatial and Microsoft Consulting Services have been awarded $94,000 to build a spatial video prototype that displays State Highway network information integrated with other Transit data and assets using Microsoft Virtual Earth and Silverlight technologies. This sort of prototype is important to assessing environmental factors before building or maintaining roads around New Zealand. MFAT have also been awarded $94,000 to work with MaBode Group and Microsoft Consulting Services in creating a prototype to assist the Crisis Management team. This prototype aims to enable the team to monitor global events as they are broadcast through the media and to manage the volume of video content produced each day through this process. Using Microsoft Vista Media Centre and TV capture cards, the team aim to demonstrate the ability to view multiple video channels from a desktop machine, search video metadata and follow a breaking story as it develops. Information about the progress of these projects will be published in the Microsoft funding 'Spotlight' newsletter. Next | Home
