Microsoft Injects Thousands into Government Microsoft New Zealand is announcing four new deployment fund projects following a March funding round that saw eleven high quality submissions reviewed. A total of $320,000 has been distributed between the four agencies, assisting them in deploying their Microsoft technology based projects. Microsoft Public Sector Director, Chris Brice anticipates the benefits these applications will provide. "The technologies to be deployed by these central and local government agencies represent some of the most recent developments from Microsoft. We are confident that implementing a more dynamic IT environment will contribute to efficiency gains, improved productivity and greater agility within the selected organisations." Upgrading their information systems infrastructure, Porirua City Council has been awarded $95,000 to implement seven Microsoft applications including Active Directory and SoftGrid for Terminal Services. This deployment will see this agency work with Microsoft Consulting Services to improve their efficiency when they migrate from Novell to their new Microsoft suite. Members of the New Zealand Defence Force will be working to reduce their carbon emissions when Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) is installed. Awarded $92,000, this agency will have the ability to add video conferencing in the future to replace non-essential travel and staff will be able to see when their colleagues are available in real-time. This project is anticipated to start before June and Microsoft Consulting Services will be providing the services to deploy OCS. Kiwibank hasn't missed a beat. This government entity has been awarded $75,000 to work with ScriptingIT in deploying Microsoft Windows Vista. Part of a larger Microsoft deployment programme, Kiwibank aims to deploy a 100% Microsoft solution that will allow an effectively managed and secure Desktop and Office environment for corporate users. Finally, jumping on the Public Records Act bandwagon, South Taranaki District Council (STDC) will be using their $70,000 to work with Information Leadership and Gen-i in deploying Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) for EDRMS as well as Office 2007. To date STDC hasn’t had an EDRMS system, but this deployment will allow staff to comply with corporate legislation as well as file and find information easily.
