  • Project 1: “Transferring educational material over conventional radio infrastructure. Our project involves a hardware device capable of plugging into the USB port, a software package which handles the data received and can manage the files.

  • Project 2: Develop a system to track and trace our e-waste from manufacturer’s right to end-of-life recycling. Through the use of passive RFID chips, web database and a website we want recycling e-waste a fun and easy process.

  • Project 3: A real time monitoring system with an emphasis on early detection. It tracks a person’s vital signs and sends the data to be tracked by a medical professional. When the data reaches abnormal ranges, an alert is set off so action can be taken.

  • Project 4: Computer vision based Driver Assistance System (DAS) uses cameras to collect information from the road environment. “Mobile DAS” is a system installed in mobile phone which aims at helping drivers and improving road safety. It uses camera on cell phone as the main sensor for its mobility and low cost. Our concept is to develop a light-weight computer vision based DAS on mobile phone.

  • Project 5: The project aims at developing an application which can test ph levels, turbidity, temperature and salinity of water to determine its viability to be used for portable reverse osmosis water desalination.

  • Project 6: A live distribution service linking conservation organisations to the public, using live cameras. The system also provides a private area for research and surveillance of animals. We will use HCI by having people monitor and index activity in the feeds.

  • Project 7: vCARE is a social collaborative platform where charity organizations can post current project details. vCARE will use social media to highlight the issues by providing pictures and videos. Donations from the community will be received in the form of micro payments by using methods such as PayPal. Progress of the projects will be provided by the charity organizations using vCARE platform to motivate the donors and provide feedback about their donations. We believe that this will not only motivate the donors to donate again but also to attract new donors.

  • Project 8: Our team understands that poverty is a major world problem. In particular, many artisans in developing countries do not get a fair price for their handicrafts and hence they remain below the poverty line. We hope to increase the artisans’ sales and earnings, so that their quality of life is improved. We propose to utilize the social networking power of Facebook to increase the awareness and availability of fair trade products. Building on the work of existing fair trade organizations, we plan to provide a global marketplace for the handicrafts. By capitalising on the viral marketing capabilities of Facebook, the artisans will achieve higher sales and thus make more money for themselves and their community.

  • Project 9: An automated motor vehicle accident response system which detects and contacts emergency services in the event of an accident. The system will be very affordable and available to all makes and models of cars.

  • Project 10: ShareCare is an electronic health kiosk. It has been aimed at independent elderly and chronic patients to track and diagnose their health. When external help is needed they can easily be connected with a professional.
