Tabbed browsing allows you to manage multiple websites within one browser window. To create or open tabs in Internet Explorer 7, click the empty tab on the Toolbar or right-click any hyperlink in a webpage and choose New Tab. You can right-click a tab to refresh an individual tab or refresh all of them as a group. You also can right-click to close individual tabs or the entire group.

Quick Tabs
Internet Explorer 7 helps manage multiple tabs with a feature called Quick Tabs. Quick Tabs enable you to view thumbnail images of all open tabs in one view. Click the Quick Tab icon just to the right of the Favorites icon to view all open tabs. From the Quick Tabs view, you can click anywhere on the tab image to view the tab. Close any tab by clicking the "X" in the far right corner of the image.

Tab Groups
Internet Explorer 7 simplifies the organization of multiple tabs with Tab Groups, which enables you to organize multiple tabs. The Tab Group then can be saved as a Favorite. Tab Groups can be created for a variety of subjects or categories such as shopping, finance, or news.

Internet Explorer 7 offers dynamic security protection to help keep you safe online. Most users are unaware of how much personal, traceable data is transmitted while browsing the web. Many people also find it difficult to distinguish between a valid website and a counterfeit copy. Phishing is a technique used by malicious website operators to gather personal information from website visitors. The phishing website masquerades as a legitimate person or business in order to acquire sensitive information (for example, a credit card or bank account number).

Developers of phishing and other malicious activities thrive on a lack of communication and the limited sharing of information. Using an online service that is updated several times an hour, the new Phishing Filter in Internet Explorer 7 consolidates the latest industry information about fraudulent websites and shares it with you help protect you while you browse.

The Phishing Filter is turned on by default when you first use Internet Explorer 7. For Phishing Filter options, including turning it on or off, reporting a suspicious site to Microsoft, and more, go to the Tools menu in the upper-right toolbar, and select Phishing Filter.

Website certificates are designed to both encrypt the traffic between your browser and a website and ensure that you're communicating with the website you intended. The website certificate includes several pieces of information such as the web address (URL), expiration date, and the authority that certified the website. If any of this information does not correspond with the site you are attempting to contact, a malicious individual may be trying to obtain personal information from you. For example, if I access https://woodgrovebank.com and everything works fine, I can be certain that I am communicating with the valid owner of that URL. However, if that certificate is stolen or is no longer valid, that URL and website combination cannot be guaranteed to be secure. As a result, Internet Explorer automatically blocks access to the site. If you have seen this on a site that you know to be valid, contact the site administrator, who should update the website certificates as soon as possible.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. RSS feeds are an easy way for website owners to distribute a list of headlines, update notices, and content to a wide number of people on the web. Most people are interested in many websites whose content changes on an unpredictable schedule. Examples of such websites are news sites, travel sites, community information pages, medical websites, and weblogs. Repeatedly checking each website to see if there is any new content can be tedious.

With integrated support for RSS in Internet Explorer 7, you can easily discover, subscribe to, and read RSS feeds directly in the browser. You can have personalized sports, news, or shopping feeds delivered directly to you.

In Internet Explorer 7, you can read the feed directly in the browser, scan for important stories and get a description of the content. You also can subscribe to a feed with a single click, a process that is similar to adding a website Favorite.

How to subscribe to an RSS feed in Internet Explorer 7

  1. The site you're visiting must offer RSS feeds. Internet Explorer 7 will notify you of a site that offers RSS by illuminating (in red or orange) the RSS feed button on your toolbar.

  2. Click the red/orange "Feeds" button to see a list of articles that are offered via RSS and subscribe to them by clicking "Subscribe to this feed" in the upper part of the screen.

  3. You can see all the updated content on this site by looking in the Feeds section of your Favorites Center each time you open Internet Explorer 7.

Internet Explorer 7 was designed to be more streamlined and less cluttered. Our goal was to maximize the amount of screen space devoted to the webpages that you want to view and reduce the size of the toolbar, which can sometimes take up as much as a third of the screen.

Most of the options you used in Internet Explorer 6 are still there. The Back and Forward buttons are smaller and have been moved next to the Address Bar. The Windows flag icon in the upper-right corner of Internet Explorer 6 has been removed to make room for the Toolbar Search Box. There is also a new Favorites Center that contains your favorite websites, RSS feeds, and browsing history. Explore the new toolbar to see all the options, including printing, page view, settings, and more.
