  Question
As a general rule, how often should the 'Compact/Repair Database' utility be
run on an Access 2003 database? Should it only be run if you suspect
corruption, or is it a good idea to run on a regular basis (e.g., once a
week)?

Thanks.

  Answer
  hi,
on a regular basis. how often? depends on how much it is
used, number of users, ect. more usage, the more you need
to compact.
i would monitor db size before and after compact for a
time period. that should give you some idea of how often.
we do it once a week.

  Answer
My users generally download fresh copies of the front-end every time they
open the database, so there is no need to compact. The back-end is in use an
average of 10 or 11 hours a day (sometimes more) so I use Total Access Agent
to compact every morning at 2:00 AM. When we were doing it manually, I
generally was able to compact it once a week.
