  Question
How do I transfer my address book, contacts, and emails in my Inbox from my
current work computer to a new work computer using the same version of MS
Outlook? I'm using MS Outlook 2002 SP2. I can't believe I'm having so much
trouble trying to find this information. Thanks

  Answer
Just copy and reuse your Outlook Data File. The file you need is your
Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the mail, calendar, contacts
etc are stored.

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm

  hi russ.

i tried transfering my old office 2007 data which i had saved as a .pst file
to my reinstalled office 2007 on my new laptop. I managed to get it onto my
present outlook data file through windows explorer so that now two .pst files
are visible. however i am not able to access my old files as a window pops up
saying ""file acess is denied.you donot have the permission to access the
file"

can you help?

Perhaps. You'll need to state how you copied and transferred the file you
cannot open. Make sure it did not acquire a read only attribute.

3 months ago, i had backed up outlook onto a portable hardrive(transcend)
which came with its own software. i had then tested it by successfully
opening it on a friend's computer with no difficulty. but now this difficulty
on my own new computer!!

also how do i check whether it has a readonly attribute?

It is never a good idea to use third party backup software with PST files.
Exactly where are these "two PST files visible?" How are you trying to open
it?
The properties of the file will tell you if a read only attribute has been
set.

i transferred the old pst file to outlook via windows explorer from my
transcend portable harddrive.. i can now view the two pst files after opening
the oulook data files. when i double click the new pst file, i can view my
current mail but doubleclicking the old pst file yields that error message i
had mentined earlier.
i confirmed that the old pst file is not a readonly(not ticked)

No way are you opening either file by double clicking on them in Windows
Explorer. You can never open PST files from Windows Explorer. You open them
in Outlook.

In what format are the Contacts backed up?
You must provide at least some detail for anyone to help you.

I want to transfer my outlook 2003 files to a new computer. Do I just copy
the outlook.pst file from the old computer into the same folder in the new
computer?

You guys seem to be the only folks who can help me:

I want to transfer eMails, yes.
I want to transfer contacts, yes.

But most importantly: I want to be able, on my new computer, to create an
eMail and type in Ste. . .for example, and right away, I get a pull down
selection of Stephen, Steve, Stephanie@aol.com, etc. Get it?

Is this information located in the .pst file that you speak of here? If
this question isn't clear enough, let me do the back end. Without this
hidden file/feature, I will have to type through or resend to everyone I've
ever written to, an eMail to have their eMail captured in my (potential) To:,
CC: or BCC: line.

I sure hope someone can help me out there with this.

21st century customer service - " got to our web site" - stinks. . .!

So you want to transfer your autocompletion cache, not your Contacts. The
methods for doing so are well documented and posted here frequently. Read
the paragraph entitled "Migrating your NK2(s) file to a new machine" here:
