  Answer
Try Options --> Mail Format --> Fonts. It lets you specify the font name and
size for plain text emails, both composing and reading. Unfortunately, for
HTML or rich text emails, you're at the mercy of whatever size the sender
decides to use. Hope that helps!

Im not sure, but I think what Carla is referring to is completely different.
I'm experiencing the same thing...or, at least, here's what i cant fix:

- Upgraded to 2007 from 2003, and want to use Tahoma as the application's
display font, across the board. The new Outlook is using Segoe(?) and while
it seems easy to edit "FONT" and "OTHER" settings to change it, its not
taking affect in certain places, namely, the Navigation Pane.

So far, i have to right-click within each Outlook folder Ive created to get
the email list to display in Tahoma. Is there a more universal setting? Maybe
across Office 2007?

Help :)

  Answer
plain text uses the settings in tools, options, mail format, fonts, which is
also used for composing messages. HTML uses the default IE settings. you can
change it per message by clicking on the border around the message.

I changed the font then left the computer and when I returned I realized how
much the new font irritated me, so I tirelessly backtracked to figure out
what I did when I stumbled upon your question. So if you are still
interested in the answer, here it is from the beginning step by step so its
not like one of those answers that give you a flashlight and expect you to
stumble through the fog:

Open your Outlook application and go to your Inbox.

Once you are in the inbox, depending on how you have arranged your viewing
panel, look at the area where you receive your emails.

So, the first area will be your Inbox shaded in a est 25% grey. Below that
you will have an area with a 10% or much lighter grey that states Arranged
By: Date (I set my emails to be arranged by date, but it could be set by
other options so everyone's could be slightly different depending on your
preferrences, but I believe the date option will be the default setting,) to
the immediate right of that Column Heading will be another box stating
Newest On Top, which can be customized as well.

Right click on the Arranged By Box and go to the Customize option, which a
screen will pop up and give you 7 option boxes to choose from.

Click on the Other Settings button, which will give you the ability to
change the font, size, and other font options for all view settings.

Hope that helps everyone to save the 45 minutes it took me. Good luck!

Ryan is dead on about this. You have to go through these hoops all the time
and on all the previous versions of outlook.. thing is.. you have to do it
for EVERY folder. you cannot just select the Inbox and make these changes
and have these changes work for every folder. It amazes me that for all the
options we have in outlook that they cannot have a simple thing that you can
go through and define the look over everything you view within outlook. when
you create a new folder it should use the settings you want. not the Segue
settings.. nope.. you have to do what Ryan states above every single time.

it simply amazes me. and i have gone through every tab and windown and
option i could think of.. if someone out there knows how to set the default
view for every subfolder i have created in one sinlge location and not have
to touch all 50 subfolders i have.. i would appreciate it. My customers
would too.

thanks

I have no idea who Ryan is or what he said since you didn't include his
message but its not that hard to set custom views - see
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/grouping.htm for the basic method
required. Once you do this all folders that use that view (including new
folders) will have the new view.

the easiest way to change the font size on incoming messages is to first open
the message, in the actions pane which is the pane containing the large x,
click on other actions, then clicl zoom at the bottom of this drop down list,
here either change button from 100% to 200% or use the arrows in the percent
window to make adjustments to your personal preference. (very easy 3 steps)

Can anyone answer this question? I'm getting headaches due to eye strain from
using my new computer. I can change the text size by making everything plain
text, but that messes up both incoming & outgoing mail.

Changing the inbox pane font & arranged by pane font was no problem. Why not
the reading pane?

What you see in the Reading Pane is controlled by several factors. One is the
format of the message. If it's in Plain Tex, then Tools>Options>Mail
Format>Fonts>When composing and reading plain text.. If it's in HTML, then
the fonts chosen by your sender and the zoom factor you've set in the message
window will have an impact. There is no one solution and you haven't given
enough information about your particular case to be more specific.
