  Answer
  Not natively but there are some add-ins like;

http://www.howto-outlook.com/redirect.asp?id=mapilab_mailmerge
If you decide to order use "4PM76A8" to get a discount.

  I always begin in Outlook, as I cannot find how to filter by Category if I
start in Word. The add-in suggested appears to require the user to begin in
Word, and the tutorial did not show how to filter by Category doing it that
way. I am using Office 2007.

  I don't know where the VBA method allows you to start - but you may need to
make a document with addresses to use any method when sending PDF's.

See http://www.slipstick.com/addins/massmail.asp for links to the VBA method
and other applications that can do mail merge.

See http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/copy_data.htm to use custom views to
create address lists in other formats.
