Sorry but ITunes contains DRM and can not be used in PowerPoint.

  Answer
As Austin said, PPT does not recognize the format. You can download
something like GoldWave (goldwave.com) a freeware audio editor and convert
it to an .mp3 format (or a .wav format that can be embedded, but a larger
file size).

I am in disbelief! I should be able to use a piece of music in my PPT
presentation that I purchased and that I downloaded into my itunes folder.
Why can't Apple and PC get along? I feel like I'm the innocent one who got
hit in the face during a grammar school playground fist fight. It's time to
grow up and WORK TOGETHER!

All Microsoft has done is to provide a way to enforce the wishes of the people
who own the rights to the media. If they don't want you to copy and distribute
it to other people, that's their right; MS is simply respecting that right.

It's up to the content providers to determine what you can do with their media.
If they choose not to allow you to copy and/or distribute it, you'll need to
take that up with them.

MS is just providing the lock on the door. It's up to the house owner to use
it or not.

In this case no, Apple provided the lock (DRM) and ALL iTunes files have it.
PowerPoint can't play it because it doesn't even know what the lock looks
like. :-)

I thought PPT recognized that the files were DRM-protected and refused to embed
them on that basis. But if not, yeah ... bad analogy.

  Troy,

Goldwave is not free! This is from the download:

Registering
Menu Command: Options | Register

"Although this evaluation version is fully functional, GoldWave is not free
software. The evaluation version will expire after a generous amount of use.
After trying GoldWave, the modest registration fee should seem very
reasonable considering all of the great features included. To register and
support further development, please see the website. You can order securely
online or you can fill in the order form and send it by mail. Registration
details are given below. If you've already purchased a license, please enter
it into the program (close this help window first)."

Thanks so much, Microsoft, for not allowing our itunes to be used in PPT
presentations. YOU'RE GREAT! NOT!

Perhaps you should vent your spleen at Apple for producing something that
is not Microsoft compatible, rather than kick Microsoft. After all,
despite all Microsoft's faults, they are not responsible for what Apple
does - or vice-versa.

Remember what Apple is for; making money for Apple, not for anyone else.
Same goes for Microsoft. It's business, and gaining a monopoly is the aim
of the game.

Brian.

Has absolutely nothing to do with Microsoft, it is the Digital Rights
Management contained in the iTunes files.

  Nobody's dogging Microsoft...
However.. itunes, sure.. It is very frustrating when I pay for a tune and
am not able to use it in my powerpoint presentation. Its not like I'm
selling it or giving it away to someone else!!
I have this presentation due tomorrow, I need to add a song, and I am unable
because iTunes is greedy!
This is why people use limewire applications!

Rick Altman 12/16/2008 7:26 PM PST

It will cost you one download and the time it takes to play the song to have
that tune importable to PowerPoint. Goodgle and download Audacity or Any
Sound Recorder and tell it to record while you play the song in iTunes. Then
save the resulting recording as an MP3 file, and you're good to go.

Blame Apple, not Microsoft, for the draconian iTunes restrictions...
