Dealing with the crappy admin interface when editing page content. Tips? Tricks? in SharePoint Server Design and Customization

  Question
  We finally have a working page layout template set up for our intranet site.

The main pages are 3 columns of rich text/html web parts.

The problem is when you go to edit one of these web parts, you end up with
the really wide text editing box. This then pushed the entire screen wide,
including the APPLY buttons.

So, if one needs to edit the lext in the lower right, for instance, the
process is:

Click EDIT PAGE

go to web part EDIT SHARED WEB PART

wait for reload, and then scroll all the way down.

Edit content

Scroll all the way to the right.

Scroll all the way to the top

Click on OK.

Click on PUBLISH.

This is just goofy, to say the least.

I can't think of a fix, nor do I really expect there to be one. But thought
I'd toss this out in here to see if maybe someone miraculously found a way
around this.

  Out of the box this is not possible but you can "hack" your way to it. :-) Be
aware that I've never tried it myself, but you can read following articles to
get a floating tool pane:
