What is a show/hide symbol ? in Word General Questions

  Question
  Whenever I open my M Word, I get this show/hide symbol for every start of the
line. Due to this, I also get every word separated by dots.

How do I switch this symbol off from the default settings?

PLEASE HELP.

  Click the ¶ button on your toolbar or CTRL+* to toggle off the display.
