The easiest way is using the Equation Editor.

I am not familiar with equation editor but looking at it briefly, I still
can't see how to write something with a few letters/numbers normally (in the
center of the line) and then a few letters/numbers superscript with
letters/numbers subscript directly below the superscript digits, followed by
a few more digits in the center of the line again.

  Answer
In the Equation Editor, click on the toolbar button labeled "Subscript and
superscript templates" to expand the palette. Select the top right button,
which shows both a subscript and a superscript; this will allow you to type
the subscript and superscript. Alternatively, select the third button in the
fourth row, which will insert a template that has places to type the
"normal" letters/numbers as well as the superscript and subscript.
