How do I add text to a drawing without using a textbox? in Word Drawing and Graphics

  Question
  I'm drawing data flow diagrams using Word and need to be able to add text to
describe a connecting arrow between two autoshapes. For example, if one
autoshape is "shipping" and another is "customer," I wanted to be able to
write "sends product" above the arrow connecting the two boxes. (Adding text
to an autoshape is not a problem.) I do not want "sends product" to be in a
text box but to simply be text above (or below) the connecting arrow. I am
using MS Office 2003.

  Hi Ed-

Text in a Word doc has to be in one of two places - 1) a text line or 2) a
'container' of some sort. That doesn't mean that the container has to be
visible... which I believe is what you are actually trying to achieve.

For what you want, use a text box positioned where you want it, but set its
Line Color property to 'No Line'. You can also set the Fill Color to 'No
Fill' if you wish. It might also be a good idea to select both the arrow &
the text box and Group them so they will stay together if moved.
