  Question
I want to do a contract where the left column is about 1.5 inches wide and is
the title for the paragraph adjoining it in the next column. How do I do
this? Can each column have different formatting and fonts?

Thanks in advance

  Answer
Don't use columns; use a two-column table. You can apply individual formats
to any selection of text you choose - in this case, in particular, to a
table cell or a column.

You can have uneven columns, yes, but it sounds like what you're trying to
do is have a heading spanning more than one column. If you have only two
columns, just put the heading in a single-column section; if you have more
than two, see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/HeadingsSpanColumns.htm

In addition to the advice already given, you may also want to take a
look at: http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/MarginalText.htm.
